Training and Community Outreach Secialist - Wethersfield Branch

Position Summary
The Training and Community Outreach Specialist's primary function is to provide credit union staff with the training and development needed to not only be successful in their role, but to grow their behaviors and skill set to prepare them for future advancement. This individual will need to be a self-starter and act independently. Under the general supervision of the Vice President of Human Resources- People and Culture, training duties include designing, developing, coordinating, scheduling, and administering training programs for the credit union. Responsible for new hire orientation and training. Responsible for developing and conducting quarterly training for the operations staff. Develops and facilitates periodic training between departments to provide staff with a broad understanding of processes and create a cohesive working relationship. Lead out in staff development by providing internal and external training opportunities. Evaluates, recommends, and writes updates to branch operations policies and procedures. Keeps staff and/or policies and procedure manuals updated with changes. Presents both group and individual training sessions in-person, remote, and on-site at branch locations. Overall training is conducted to ensure that service, compliance, and all member service functions are completed in accordance with credit union standards and regulations
In relation to business development activities, this individual will plan, organize, and direct the credit union’s business development efforts that promote credit union growth by attracting new relationships with partner companies. The Training and Community Outreach Specialist is also responsible for the planning and implementation of community outreach activities to achieve positive brand awareness and meet the organization’s strategic goals.
All information regarding members and credit union business must be kept in strict confidence. The Training and Community Outreach Specialist must uphold a cooperative and positive attitude toward credit union staff, members, and vendors while maintaining a professional appearance and demeanor. This positive, professional attitude must be present when conducting all business development meetings, presentations, and outside community events.
: include the following, but not limited to:
· Gain knowledge of work situations requiring training for employees to better understand changes in products, policies, procedures, regulations, and technologies, and to understand training needs.
· Coordinates and/or conducts training sessions covering specified areas such as: new employee training, on-the-job training, use of computers and software, sales techniques, products and services, and safety practices. Sets up training area for group training sessions.
· Selects or develops teaching aids such as training manuals, multimedia visual aids, computer tutorials, etc.
· Take a holistic approach to credit union-wide training. Develop training programs for the full staff or specific departments to improve processes and communications within the credit union.
· Evaluate the effectiveness of training and recommend modifications as needed.
· Reports on the progress of employees under guidance during training periods and reports on anything requiring further discussion deriving from a training session.
· Recognize and recommend process improvements.
· Continuously monitors the training programs available from outside vendors such as CUES University and the CUNA Training Bundle and other professional training organizations, and arranges for in-house delivery as might be appropriate.
· Assign, monitor, and report on all mandatory compliance training for credit union staff
· Keeps informed on new developments, methods, and techniques in the training field.
· Updates and develops new training programs to meet current needs, and coordinates resources to provide effective employee support.
· Evaluates, recommends, and writes updates to branch operations’ policies and procedures and conveys and clarifies related information to staff.
· Learn and train new technologies implemented within the branch network.
· Assist in authoring Dutch Point’s annual Community Outreach Plan.
· Develop and expand financial education opportunities with the school systems within the counties we serve.
· Arranges with partner companies to conduct events that introduce the credit union to potential members and create opportunities for new member establishment.
· Promotes goodwill with educational institutions and community organizations through remote, in-person, and classroom seminars.
· Remains a flexible, team player that supports the credit union in the branches based on credit union needs.
· Successfully complete annual BSA training and abide by the Credit Union’s BSA and OFAC-related policies and procedures.
· Performs other duties as may be assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
No requirement.
PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:
Working knowledge of credit union products, services, policies, and procedures. Ability to train individuals in the necessary areas to become successful in their role. Adjust the training based on the specific needs of the individual or group that is being trained. The ability to initiate new and unscheduled training and business development programs when needed. Facilitate and attend business development and community events after hours or on weekends.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
B.S. degree or equivalent; or a minimum of two to three years of relevant experience in training/teaching or financial services.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as regulatory instructions, policy manuals, task documentation, and procedure manuals. Ability to write clearly and concisely in developing training manuals, exercises, and instructional material, as well as in producing routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups with an enthusiastic positive approach.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished both written or oral. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:
Ability to utilize all training tools and technology such as: computerized training equipment, overhead projector, video training equipment, multi-media equipment, and printing aids. Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word.
Ability to learn how to use branch technology such as: cash recyclers and ITM’s.
Fully knowledgeable in credit union terminology and acronyms commonly utilized in the day-to-day communication of staff, policymakers and others involved in the credit union system.
Adaptability to evolving priorities and deadlines.
