Job Description:

Windstar Lines is seeking a skilled and organized Transit Bus Mechanic to oversee the maintenance and repair program for our transit shuttle fleet serving a major long-term project in Boise, Idaho.

This position will manage all day-to-day maintenance activities for transit-style and motorcoach vehicles, ensuring the fleet remains safe, reliable, and compliant with DOT standards. The technician will coordinate with operations staff, oversee inspections and repairs, track preventive maintenance schedules, and act as the on-site technical liaison between Windstar Lines, drivers, and the project team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and perform preventive maintenance and repairs on transit and motorcoach vehicles
  • Ensure all vehicles meet DOT safety standards and company maintenance requirements
  • Oversee daily vehicle inspections, record-keeping, and maintenance documentation
  • Schedule and assign work to service vendors as needed
  • Troubleshoot electrical, air, and engine systems to minimize downtime
  • Maintain accurate parts inventory and order supplies when necessary
  • Coordinate with the Operations Supervisor and drivers to address reported issues promptly
  • Ensure environmental and safety compliance within the maintenance area
  • Prepare weekly maintenance status reports for company management
  • Support emergency response and breakdown calls as needed

Qualifications:

  • Valid CDL (Class B or higher) with passenger endorsement – preferred (required for road testing vehicles)
  • 5+ years of mechanical experience on diesel, transit, or motorcoach vehicles
  • Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills
  • Knowledge of DOT, OSHA, and EPA regulations
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Must pass pre-employment drug and alcohol testing (DOT compliant)
  • Basic computer literacy (maintenance tracking software, spreadsheets, email)

Schedule:

  • Full-time, on-site position
  • Sunday–Thursday, 8am–5pm, with flexibility for after-hours or emergency repairs
  • Occasional day or night work may be required during high-volume periods
