Job Title: Transportation Broker Agent Location: Corporate/Hybrid
Reports To: Director of Transportation Classification: Exempt/Full-time
Direct Reports: Transportation Sales Representative Compensation: Base salary + 3% of gross revenue commission
Schedule: 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM (subject to change based on business needs)
POSITION SUMMARY
This position is responsible for driving new revenue growth and expanding DIR Transportation’s customer base through direct prospecting, client meetings, and contract negotiation. The Transportation Broker Agent, Outside Sales, proactively seeks, secures, and manages new customer relationships and shipping lanes to generate consistent revenue. The goal is to expand DIR’s transportation footprint, open new markets, and deliver measurable business growth.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Span of Control: Independent contributor reporting to the Director of Transportation.

Lead Generation: Research, identify, and target prospective shipping customers through outbound calls, on-site visits, and networking. Maintain a strong sales pipeline and meet outreach goals.

Consultative Selling: Develop tailored transportation solutions for customers, balancing service excellence and profitability. Prepare and present formal sales proposals.

Closing Business: Negotiate rates and secure new freight contracts that align with DIR’s revenue and operational targets.

Customer Relationship Management: Build and maintain client partnerships to drive retention and continuous growth.

Pipeline Management: Maintain CRM records, forecasts, and weekly activity reports for management review.

Collaboration: Partner with transportation coordinators, operations, and warehouse leaders to ensure successful onboarding and load execution for new customers.

Market Knowledge: Stay informed about freight rates, competition, and industry trends.

Performance Expectations: Meet mutually agreed upon annual revenue and margin goals established with the Director of Transportation. Maintain a consistent pipeline of qualified opportunities sufficient to achieve assigned sales targets.

Travel Requirement: Must be willing and able to travel regionally (approximately 50 - 60 % of work time) for client visits, trade events, and prospecting activities.

Compliance & Ethics: Maintain professional integrity and adhere to DIR policies, ethical sales standards, and applicable laws.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Represent DIR at trade shows, customer meetings, and transportation events.

Participate in strategic pricing discussions and planning sessions.

Support promotional initiatives and marketing efforts.

Assist with customer implementation and handoff to operations.

Maintain confidentiality of DIR pricing, customer data, and strategic information, and refrain from unauthorized solicitation of DIR customers or carriers.

Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Bachelor’s degree preferred (Business, Marketing, Logistics, or related field).

Minimum five (5) years of successful transportation or logistics sales experience.

Established book of shipper contacts highly preferred.

Ability to travel regionally (50 % of time).

Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.

- Work Environment: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The work environment is mostly office; however, project work will be in a warehouse setting. The warehouse environment may be dusty, dirty, loud, and subject to weather variations (no A/C in summer or heater in winter).
