Title: Transportation Coordinator
Schedule: Monday-Friday / 261 days per year
Pay: $60,000 - 66,500
Reports to: Director of Support Services
Purpose and Objectives of the Position: The Transportation Coordinator will coordinate bus drivers’ assignments, schedules, route assignments and vehicles to provide safe and efficient pupil transportation services.
Essential Job Functions:
- Conduct periodic checks for efficiency of services and employee productivity.
- Keep accurate and current records of training, driver history, accidents and route mileage.
- High frequency of telephone use: drivers calling in sick, addressing parental concerns; route related questions; communicating with building administrators.
- Ability to react to change and frequent interruptions in a productive and positive manner, meeting deadlines as assigned.
- Conforms with and knows all State laws, regulations, and district policies regarding school transportation for regular and special education.
- Responsible for driver training and is the immediate supervisor of the transportation “Driver Trainers.”
- Plan and present of the monthly Driver’s Safety
Miscellaneous Additional Duties:
- Availability to fulfill the duties of a bus driver upon necessity.
- Assist with new driver training and remedial training of current employees.
- Provide instruction during periodic in-service and training meetings.
- Perform periodic driver performance evaluations.
- Organize and conduct the interviews and hiring process of applicants for bus positions.
- Participate in investigative interrogatories with law enforcement officials.
- Participate in accident reporting and investigation.
- Be on-call to address and handle off-hour emergencies.
Student Management:
- Handle school bus safety and behavior referrals in cooperation with the Director of Support Services and Administrators.
- Provide corrective interaction when necessary.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Assist the Director of Support Services with the supervision of regular route and special education drivers and aides.
- Schedule routes, drivers and sub drivers with accuracy.
- Other duties as assigned by the Director of Support Services.

Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions:
- Requires prolonged sitting, walking, or driving.
- Requires driving skills, which include turning and reaching, and the ability to operate a vehicle at night.
- Occasional exposure to various outdoor elements when investigating accidents or other responsibilities which would involve exposure to outdoor elements year round.
- Must have ability to remain focused under stressful situations which could include severe student misconduct, “lost” or “misplaced” students, dissatisfied parents, mechanical emergencies, etc.
- Must work in a noisy, crowded, stressful environment, with numerous interruptions.
- Must work in and around dust, fumes, and odors.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Acceptable Report from criminal history inquiry; acceptable driving record and acceptable to insurance underwriter; pass bus driver physical exam and pre-employment, random, and/or reasonable suspicion drug and alcohol screening.
- CDL license with proper endorsements.
- Defensive Driving and First Aid Certification.
- Previous experience in a similar position is a plus.
- Effective organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Capable of multi-tasking.
- Experience operating office equipment, computers, district software, and driving all types of school buses.
- Ability to observe and follow all school district policies at all times.
- Ability to implement and follow all district health and safety policies, including all precautions of the Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan.
- Must verify good health by passing a physical examination that includes TB and drug test as required.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

- Ability to keep student and personnel information and records confidential.
