Transportation Routing Coordinator

Primary Purpose:

Coordinate daily school bus routing operations to ensure all routes are staffed and operated safely, efficiently, and in compliance with district, state, and federal requirements. Maintain routing records, ridership data, payroll documentation, and transportation reports required for Texas Education Agency (TEA) and Elgin ISD funding and compliance.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification:

● High school diploma or equivalent with additional appropriate education and/or training required

● Bachelor’s Degree (Preferred)

● Valid Texas Commercial Driver License (CDL) with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements required

● Valid Texas School Bus Driver certification required

● Must pass DOT physical examination and maintain physical and emotional fitness standards required for school bus drivers

● Maintain an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report (MVR)

● Must be able to read, write, and speak English

● Certified Drug and Alcohol Awareness Program Supervisor (Preferred)

● TAPT Supervisor Official certification (Preferred)

● Bilingual (Preferred) Special Knowledge/Skills:

● Knowledge of Texas school transportation laws, regulations, and TEA reporting requirements

● Knowledge of school bus routing procedures, attendance zones, road systems,campus boundaries, and individual school programs

● Knowledge of federal drug and alcohol testing requirements under 49 CFR Part 382

● Ability to interpret transportation requirements within Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) documents

● Strong organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

● Effective verbal and written communication skills

● Ability to work collaboratively with staff, parents, and campus personnel

● Proficient in Google Suite and Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Word, Outlook, and Publisher

● Ability to maintain accurate records and prepare state and federal reports

● Ability to train and provide guidance to adult learners, staff, and group of students

Experience:

● Minimum five (5) years applicable school transportation operations preferred Major Responsibilities and Duties:

● Provide guidance to lead drivers in the planning, coordinating, and accomplishment of on-going routing functions.

● Provide routing of all buses, including route description and maps for each driver and TEA route description for files.

● Monitor ridership of bus routes and create new routes when needed.

● Create ridership list for each route for the state reports.

● Coordinate all extended school year routes.

● Attend ARD meetings when necessary.

● Provide guidance to lead drivers in the daily dispatching functions.

● Monitor traffic and weather conditions.

● Coordinate daily bus operations to ensure all routes are covered.

● Coordinate loading/unloading with each campus.

● Use the two-way radio for verbal instruction and communication with bus drivers and district staff.

● Serve as a substitute route or activity bus driver as needed and maintain all required driver qualifications

● Participate in professional development, continuing education, and transportation training programs to ensure the department remains in compliance with all federal and state guidelines as well as uses “best practice” for all safety issues.

● Responsible for performing duties of Coordinator of Route Services - SPED in his/her absence. Other

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Supervise and evaluate assigned transportation personnel in accordance with district policies and procedures.

Equipment Used:

School bus and all related equipment, personal computer, transportation operations software programs, copier, telephone, two-way radio, fax machine, TV/DVD, VCR, and camera.

Working Conditions: Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Paperwork processing, bending, stooping, twisting, turning, reaching, lifting up to 50 pounds, carrying, pulling, pushing, climbing, and extensive sitting, normal office environment, frequent interruptions and possibility of extended hours, outside, excessive heat, cold, humidity, dampness or chilling, intermittent noise, fumes, wind and dust. Emotionally well balanced to be able to deal with any emergency situation that could arise.

Pay: $48,222.00 - $69,392.00 per year
