Responsibilities
- Safely transport patients to and from medical appointments, procedures, and various departments within healthcare facilities using appropriate mobility aids such as Hoyer lifts or wheelchairs.
- Assist patients with mobility needs, including transfers, positioning, and ambulation, while adhering to aseptic techniques and safety protocols.
- Monitor and document vital signs, patient condition updates, and relevant medical information during transportation using electronic health record (EHR) systems like Epic or Cerner.
- Communicate effectively with clinical staff to coordinate patient movement and ensure timely arrivals for treatments or procedures.
- Provide compassionate support to patients with diverse needs, including those with dementia, Alzheimer's disease, or behavioral health conditions, ensuring their comfort and safety throughout transport.
- Maintain strict adherence to HIPAA regulations and medical documentation standards when handling sensitive patient information.
- Assist with infection control practices and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) during all patient interactions.
Skills
- Proven experience as a CNA or similar caregiving role within hospital, long-term care, assisted living, or home care settings.
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic, Cerner, or eClinicalWorks for accurate documentation.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and vital signs monitoring.
- Experience working with individuals with disabilities, including developmental disabilities or behavioral health conditions.
- Ability to operate mobility aids like Hoyer lifts safely and effectively while following aseptic techniques.
- Good driving record.
- Strong communication skills for collaborating with multidisciplinary teams in fast-paced environments such as ICU, emergency medicine, or trauma centers.
- Basic life support (BLS) certification is required; additional certifications in dementia care, hospice care, or infectious disease management are advantageous.
- Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive situations with empathy and professionalism while maintaining patient dignity.
