JOB SUMMARY:
The Transportation Supervisor is responsible for the routing & dispatch operations in the Transportation Department.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Write all memos for both warehouse/transportation departments as necessary
Track all drivers DQ files
Track all drivers medical files
Set all D.O.T. physical appointments
Make all driver license renewals applications and keep updates
Tracks fuel trip reports
Tracks toll cards and transporters for Maine & Massachusetts
Tracks driver accuracy standards
Keeps drivers folders including write ups
Arranges hotels and tracks the records for all drivers
Assists Transportation and Warehouse in answering, all questions relating to actual expenses and the construction of the department’s budget.
Issues all warnings to union members as required
Maintain the most cost effective and efficient routes while achieving service requirements
Proactively communicate all service issues within Sales and up-line management
Provide guidance for drivers to waiver from company policies or best practices as deemed necessary to carry out effective operations. (i.e. a customer wants to make a return outside company policy).
Prepare daily records, communications, and maintain filing system for Driver
Vehicle Inspection Reports and Department of Transportation (DOT) files.
Complete transportation paperwork including route manifests, invoices, special customer notifications, maps etc.
Verify equipment “readiness" with Transportation Shop.
Provide timely reports to supervisors as requested.
Possess strong interpersonal skills and be able to discuss dispatch issues with drivers, customers and managers.
Monitor/track daily progress and adjust as needed
Track and submit driver hours to payroll department
Adapt to adverse conditions and problem solve accordingly.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Route fleet vehicles, ensuring compliance with DOT and State regulations.
Understand DOT hours of service and ensure driver compliance.
Interpret and monitor compliance for policies, regulations and best practices for the driver population including logging hours of service regulations, delivery and credit policies, etc.
Effectively use technology to continuously improve fleet operation and driver management.
Acts proactively in researching advancements in routing and technology to continuously improve routing processes and fleet efficiency with a strong working knowledge of Excel.
Job Requirements:
High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s degree preferred.
Minimum of 3 years of experience in similar function required.
Ability to gain knowledge of mainframe computer applications relating to record keeping and scheduling required.
Experience in Routing Software, i.e. Roadshow or Roadnet preferred.
Proficiency in MS Word and Excel, and Outlook programs required.
Effective communication skills required.
Ability to work in a team environment and work independently required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this position, the employee sits for prolonged periods of time, stands, walks, speaks, sees, hears, bends, reaches and moves intermittently during working hours. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Employee must be able to read, understand and input computer data as well as use the phone, computer, printer, copier, calculator and fax and do hand written reports. Manual dexterity is required for se of calculator, mouse, and computer keyboard.
