Transportation Supervisor

The Transportation Supervisor oversees all student transportation operations and school-owned vehicle fleet activities in support of academic programs, athletics, field trips, and extracurricular events. This position is responsible for the safe, efficient, and professional operation of the transportation program, including the supervision, training, evaluation, and accountability of all transportation personnel.

The Transportation Supervisor ensures compliance with school policies and state and federal regulations through regular oversight, coaching, corrective action, and ongoing driver training. This role also oversees the maintenance, inspection, repair coordination, and operational readiness of all school-owned vehicles, including buses, vans, trucks, and carts. The position works closely with the Director of Safety & Operations and may assist other operations teams as needed.

Key ResponsibilitiesTransportation Operations

  • Oversee daily transportation operations, including routes, athletic trips, field trips, and special transportation requests.
  • Coordinate transportation schedules with administrators, coaches, faculty, staff, and parents.
  • Respond to transportation emergencies, accidents, breakdowns, weather issues, and operational disruptions.
  • Drive a school bus as needed as a substitute driver and other times during the school year.

Driver Supervision and Accountability

  • Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate transportation personnel.
  • Provide direct oversight of drivers through ride-alongs, safety checks, meetings, and performance evaluations.
  • Address performance concerns through coaching, retraining, documentation, and corrective action.
  • Ensure drivers maintain professional conduct, safe driving practices, required certifications, and compliance with all regulations.
  • Oversee required drug and alcohol testing, motor vehicle record checks, and incident investigations.

Fleet Management and Compliance

  • Oversee maintenance, inspections, repairs, cleanliness, and operational readiness of all school-owned vehicles.
  • Coordinate preventative maintenance schedules and vendor repairs.
  • Maintain fleet records, including inspections, registrations, mileage, and repair history.
  • Assist with transportation budgeting, purchasing, and cost-effective operational practices.
  • Ensure compliance with school policies, insurance requirements, and applicable transportation laws and regulations.
  • Maintain transportation documentation, emergency procedures, and required reports.

Operations Support

  • Collaborate with school administrators regarding student behavior and transportation concerns.
  • Promote professionalism, accountability, and teamwork within the operations department.
  • Assist with campus events, logistics, and other operational needs as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Ten or more years of a combination of bus driving experience and supervisory experience
  • Minimum two years of experience in transportation, fleet operations, logistics, or a related field.
  • Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and conflict management skills.
  • Knowledge of transportation safety practices, fleet maintenance, and applicable transportation regulations.
  • Ability to manage schedules, budgets, personnel, and operational priorities effectively.
  • Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions during emergencies.
  • General computer proficiency.
  • Valid Utah Class B CDL with Passenger and School Bus Endorsements (or ability to obtain within an established timeframe).
  • Acceptable driving record and required medical, school bus, and First Aid/CPR certifications.
  • Ability to occasionally work evenings, weekends, or flexible hours in support of school activities.
