Position Summary:
The Assistant Travel Lift / Heavy Equipment Operator supports the safe and efficient operation of travel lifts and heavy equipment during vessel haul-outs, launches, and yard movements, assisting in daily yard operations while maintaining strict adherence to safety procedures and operational guidelines.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Assist with travel lift operations including vessel haul-outs, launches, blocking, and repositioning.
  • Operate or support the operation of heavy equipment such as travel lifts, forklifts, and yard equipment under supervision.
  • Perform pre-operation inspections and report equipment or safety concerns immediately.
  • Act as ground support during lifts, including line handling, spotting, and communication with operators.
  • Follow established lift plans, yard traffic controls, and safety procedures at all times.
  • Assist with vessel blocking, stands, cribbing, and securing vessels in the yard.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area throughout the yard.
  • Coordinate with supervisors and production teams to support daily operational needs.
  • Participate in safety meetings, training, and equipment certifications as required.
  • Support routine equipment maintenance and basic troubleshooting as assigned.
  • Respond to changing priorities and operational demands in a fast-paced marine environment.

Requirements & Qualifications:
  • 1–3 years of experience working in a marine, industrial, or heavy-equipment environment preferred.
  • Basic experience or familiarity with travel lifts, forklifts, or similar heavy equipment.
  • Strong understanding of jobsite safety practices and willingness to follow detailed instructions.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with operators, supervisors, and ground crews.
  • Willingness to learn lift procedures, vessel handling, and yard operations.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and around heavy industrial equipment.
  • Physically capable of performing manual labor, including lifting, bending, climbing, and standing for extended periods.
