Job Purpose
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Construction Instructor to join our Drop Out Recovery Program team. This position focuses on providing hands-on construction education and career preparation to students who are working to complete their high school education. The successful candidate will combine technical construction expertise with the ability to engage and motivate at-risk students in a supportive, flexible learning environment.

Key Responsibilities
Instruction and Curriculum Development
- Develop and deliver comprehensive construction curriculum aligned with state CTE standards and industry requirements
- Teach fundamental construction skills including carpentry, electrical basics, plumbing basics, masonry, blueprint reading, and construction safety
- Integrate academic subjects (math, science, reading) into hands-on construction projects
- Prepare students for industry-recognized certifications such as OSHA 10-Hour, NCCER credentials, or similar programs
- Maintain current knowledge of construction industry trends, technologies, and safety practices
Student Support and Engagement
- Create a positive, inclusive classroom environment that accommodates diverse learning styles and backgrounds
- Provide individualized instruction and support to students with varying skill levels and educational gaps
- Implement trauma-informed teaching practices appropriate for at-risk student populations
- Develop mentoring relationships that encourage student persistence and goal achievement
- Collaborate with counselors and support staff to address barriers to student success
Program Management
- Maintain construction lab/workshop spaces, tools, and equipment in safe working condition
- Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and maintain detailed safety protocols
- Coordinate with local employers and unions to provide internship and job placement opportunities
- Track student progress, attendance, and certification achievements
- Prepare students for transition to employment or post-secondary education
Community and Industry Partnerships
- Build relationships with local contractors, trade unions, and construction companies
- Organize guest speakers, field trips, and real-world project opportunities
- Facilitate job shadowing and apprenticeship connections for students
- Represent the program at community events and industry meetings
