Position Summary

As a Traveling Controls Technician, you will have a crucial part in the implementation of a Smart Building System. From performing site audits, creating smart control designs and BOM generations, and through to the commissioning and verification of such systems. You will also be responsible for the provisioning and testing of the system, to ensure the client’s project is delivered as smoothly as possible. You will also have a hand in helping build and grow the company through process & procedure improvements. IoT Deployment Services team structure and horizontal structure provide Project Managers & Coordinators the autonomy they need to oversee the project’s execution with the assistance of our talented Traveling Controls Technician.

Expectations & Responsibilities

75% Primary Responsibilities

  • System Commissioning - Doing all tasks necessary to set up a control system, including but not limited to commissioning devices, setting up various parts of the system, creating & applying schedules, etc.
  • System Testing & Verification - Whether it be on-site or remotely, a Controls Technician/Engineer shall lead the verification process to test the functionality of devices for the system and record such results, including issues.
  • Device Troubleshooting & Resolution – Whether it be onsite or remotely, a critical aspect of a Controls Technician/Engineer is the ability to quickly and accurately determine the cause of an issue, and recommend or directly put into action a resolution/solution
  • Project Documentation – Creation and management of project documentation. Such as Designs, as-builts, verification reports, punch lists, etc.
  • Status Updates- A Controls Technician/Engineer is a Project Manager's first line in gathering information regarding project happenings, and adequately relaying that information back to the Project Manager.

25% Secondary Responsibilities

  • This position will be expected to assist our Installation Crew when Primary responsibilities (primarily System Commissioning) are exhausted for a given week. This secondary responsibility fills the void in work when enough Commissioning is not present and requires a slight electrical background. We are happy to discuss this responsibility in much more depth via email, phone, or interview!
  • Assisting Other Teams - From time to time, a Traveling Controls Technician may be required to work on the systems or projects outside of their typical team
  • Process Improvements - As Traveling Controls Technician have the greatest visibility in our commissioning tasks, they play a part in the conversations around how we can improve these processes.

Application Requirements

  • (Required) Willingness to travel 3-5 days per week, throughout the year (Out-of-State)
  • (Required) Associate's degree or higher
  • (Required) Educational background in engineering, construction, electrical or technology
  • (Required) Valid Travel Passport
  • (Required) High level of computer literacy
  • (Required) Learn & Install Low-Voltage Cabling
  • (Bonus) OSHA Training
  • (Bonus) Direct experience with IoT, PLC or control devices/systems
  • (Bonus) Direct experience as an electrician, or with electrical work
  • (Bonus) Direct experience with HVAC or A/V technology
  • (Bonus) Direct experience with DMX technology
  • (Bonus) Direct experience with Lighting technology
  • (Bonus) Direct experience with Crestron or Hubbell controls/technology
