Job Overview
The Treasurer is responsible for ensuring financial oversight and fiscal integrity of the organization. This role safeguards transparency, monitors financial controls, and ensures responsible management of organizational funds.

Duties

Review monthly and quarterly financial reports

Present financial summaries at board meetings

Oversee development of annual operating budget

Monitor financial controls and risk management systems

Ensure compliance with IRS and New York State reporting requirements

Review banking arrangements and financial policies.

Support development of financial sustainability strategy

Governance Expectations

The Treasurer provides financial oversight and does not engage in daily bookkeeping unless formally authorized. The Treasurer must remain independent and objective in all financial reviews

Requirements

  • Proven experience in financial management within nonprofit organizations, government agencies, or public accounting firms.
  • Financial literacy required• Accounting, finance, or budgeting experience preferred• Ability to interpret financial reports
  • Ability to interpret complex financial data accurately and communicate findings clearly through written reports.
  • Experience with financial concepts related to governmental funding or non-profit operations is highly desirable.
  • Excellent analytical skills combined with strong attention to detail and organizational abilities.
  • CPA or equivalent certification is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Term

Treasurer serves a two-year term, renewable upon board approval.
