Truck Equipment Service Tech

Summary/Objective

We are seeking a skilled Service Technician to diagnose, repair, and maintain truck-mounted equipment and road service systems. This position requires strong troubleshooting ability in hydraulic, electrical, and fabricated systems. This is hands-on mechanical work — ideal for technicians with experience in truck equipment, heavy equipment, fleet maintenance, or mobile hydraulic systems.

Essential Functions

  • Diagnose and repair hydraulic systems, electrical circuits, and fabricated truck equipment components.
  • Troubleshoot 12V electrical systems, wiring, switches, and controls.
  • Repair or replace metal-fabricated parts and perform light fabrication and welding as needed.
  • Read and interpret service manuals, work instructions, and schematics.
  • Operate welders, plasma cutters, torches, overhead cranes, and forklifts.
  • Perform quality inspections of completed repairs.
  • Document service work accurately using company systems.
  • Communicate with supervisors and parts coordinators to ensure efficient job completion.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. This position is performed in all weather conditions. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Your manager will provide you with the specific details of your schedule. The schedule is subject to change due to customer requirements or business needs. Overtime may be necessary to handle emergencies, heavy workloads or other issues.

Travel

Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out of the area and overnight travel may be expected. All travel must be approved in advance by management. Please reference the employee handbook for all applicable policies.

Required Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 3+ years of hands-on mechanical experience in truck equipment, fleet maintenance, heavy equipment, agricultural equipment, or related industry.
  • Experience diagnosing and repairing hydraulic systems (hoses, valves, cylinders, pumps).
  • Experience troubleshooting 12V electrical systems (wiring, relays, switches, controllers).
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and work instructions.
  • Proficiency using hand and power tools.
  • Ability to work independently and complete repairs within established time standards.
  • Ability to lift to 75lbs and perform physical shop work.
  • Strong commitment to safety and quality workmanship.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • 5+ years of experience in truck equipment or mobile equipment service.
  • Vocational or technical training in automotive, diesel, industrial maintenance, or related fields.
  • Experience with dump bodies, plows, spreaders, hoists, or other vocational truck equipment.
  • Welding and light fabrication experience (MIG preferred).
  • Experience working with mobile hydraulic systems and PTO-driven equipment.
  • Familiarity with OEM chassis systems (Ford, GM, RAM, Freightliner, etc.).
  • CDL (or ability to obtain one).
  • Experience documenting work in service management or ERP systems.
