Job Overview
As a truss designer, your duties are to design truss systems for commercial and residential buildings. You create layouts and drawings for floor and roof plans by hand and with AutoCAD or other design software, and discuss changes in designs with architects, engineers, and other designers.
Responsibilities
- Create detailed truss design plans using specialized software.
- Collaborate with architects, engineers, and construction teams to understand project requirements.
- Conduct structural analysis to ensure truss designs meet safety and performance standards.
- Review and revise designs based on feedback and project specifications.
- Generate material lists and cost estimates for truss systems.
- Provide technical support throughout the construction process.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal building codes and regulations.
- Maintain accurate design documentation and conduct site visits to gather information.
- Stay updated with industry trends, tools, and best practices
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Associates degree or higher in Engineering, Architecture or a related field
- Proficiency in design and drafting software
- Strong understanding of structural analysis and load calculations
- Ability to read and interpret architectural and engineering drawings
- Experience with CAD software and other design tools
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Attention to detail and a high level of accuracy
- Familiarity with local building codes and regulations
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new tools and technologies
- Previous experience in truss design, construction or architectural design preferred
Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
- Majority of functions are completed in an office with periodic trips around facilities and manufacturing plant are required
- Walking, sitting, standing, bending, talking, hearing, seeing, and using hands to operate tools necessary for the job
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
- Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this position.
Pay: $48,000.00 - $55,000.00 per year
