Tug Engineer

One of the leading ports is looking to hire below position.

Job Title : Tug Engineer

Purpose: Under general supervision of the Manager, this position ensures that all machinery on board the tug is maintained in good working order at all times and to operate the tug on towage services as and when required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Be responsible for the starting and stopping procedures of the tugs engines and generators whilst on towage services.
  • To ensure that all machinery (deck and engine) is maintained to operational standards at all times.
  • To take responsibility for keeping the engine room and area clean and tidy and free of hazards at all times.
  • Report to the Manager / Master, any breakdowns or faults with the tug, liaising with the Manager to arrange repairs either internally or with outside contractors.
  • Carry out routine maintenance and repairs as and when required, following Planned Preventative Maintenance Procedures.
  • Ensure that the tugs have sufficient lube oils and bunkers to carry out operations at all times.
  • Follow Health & Safety and Ship's Husbandry regulations and guidelines in all operations, particularly with regard to routine checks and inspections.
  • To supervise and train all other staff under his control.
  • To work with the Manager in drawing up specification documents for dry docking and surveys. To co-ordinate dry dockings and surveys to ensure all work is completed in a timely and orderly fashion.
  • To advise the Master on any defects that could affect the safe operation of the tug and to maintain a log of all defects and to liaise with the Manager in prioritizing and rectification.
  • To carry out any other tasks required by the Manager/Master.

Essential Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Education: Requires a Bachelor Degree or diploma in Marine Engineering and additional technical education – Class 3E, certificate of competency and STCW equivalent.

Experience: Requires at least 3 years as engineer or relief engineer on board tugs or small coastal vessels. Additional experience as engineer of conventional and tractor tugs desirable.

Specialized Knowledge:

Requires specific technical knowledge in the maintenance and repair of tugs.

Must be thoroughly familiar with all types of vessels that call at port.

Must be able to replace/repair/adjust major mechanical/hydraulic parts.

Must be familiar with electronic instrumentation.

4. Skills:

Requires ability to analyze all engineering situations.

Requires advanced level of verbal and written communications skills in English Language.

Requires ability to submit accurate and detailed reports.

A Requires good interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and suppliers.

Must be able to exercise good judgment in order to set priorities.

Must have the ability to train potential engineers.

Requires proven IT skills or aptitude.

Salary: 1,060.00 OMR – gross monthly salary + Family Status

Age Limit: 40 to 48, but can consider above 48 if in good health with no medical history.

Pay: Up to RO1,060.000 per month
