Description

Do you like helping others achieve their academic goals? Heartland Community College hires Lead Tutors from diverse educational backgrounds to meet with individuals or small groups on a scheduled or drop-in basis. Part-time hours with flexible scheduling are available.

Tutors provide assistance to students in general skill or specific content areas with a goal to increase independent learning. Our Tutoring Services program is nationally certified, which helps inform our generous training program.

Consideration will be given to applicants in all subject areas; however, we have a particular need for Lead Tutors in the following subject areas as well as those who can cover multiple disciplines/broad subject areas:

  • Algebra (with a knowledge of various calculators): Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:00 am-11:00 am
  • Biology (Anatomy and Physiology and Intro to Microbiology)
  • Building Maintenance: Mondays and Wednesdays from 1:00 pm-4:50 pm
  • Electronics Mondays and Wednesdays 8:00 am- 11:50 and Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1:00 pm -5:00 pm
  • Machining Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 am- 12 pm
  • Physics
  • Welding

Requirements



Lead Tutors:

  • Bachelor’s degree with successful completion (A or B grade) of a course that equals or exceeds the difficulty of course(s) tutored.
  • All tutor positions require excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, as well as functional computer skills.

Desired Qualifications

  • Successful tutoring experience
  • Demonstrated respect for and inclusion of individuals with diverse perspectives, identities, and behaviors
  • Ability to interact professionally at all times
  • Knowledge of or ability to quickly learn new software as needed


These positions are based in Central IL and ability to be present on-campus/in-person as needed is required.
