Tutors Campus Kilpatrick - Malibu

Thrive Academics Inc. is seeking reliable, highly qualified K-12 tutors who not only teach academic skills, but also help students develop independence in their studies. Our goal is to help our students thrive, so we are looking for people to take academics to another level beyond the worksheets and text books.

Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated Tutor to provide in-person academic support to students at Campus Kilpatrick located at 427 South Encinal Canyon, Malibu, CA 90265. The assignment begins in April and runs through June 30, 2026.

This role offers approximately 10-15 hours per week Monday–Friday (8:30-12:00), working with students grades 9-12 in small group or one-on-one settings.

Tutors will guide students through general academic support using the materials students bring to their sessions, helping them improve comprehension, study strategies, and essential academic skills while also influencing positive character and choices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide structured, small-group or one-on-one academic support across general subjects for grades 9–12.
  • Assist students with homework, study preparation, and comprehension across various subjects (Math, ELA, Science, Social Studies, and more).
  • Model effective problem-solving and learning strategies—without giving answers—to promote independent learning.
  • Adapt support to each student’s academic level and needs in a drop-in tutoring environment.
  • Collaborate with fellow tutors during overlapping shifts to coordinate coverage and maintain session continuity.
  • Report accurate and organized attendance and progress records for each student daily.
  • Communicate regularly via (phone call, email, text) with Program Coordinators and Thrive Academics staff to provide updates and ensure consistent program quality.
  • Participate in required compliance and facility training prior to assignment (LiveScan, TB Test, Mandated Reporter, PREA).

Position Requirements

Communication: Must be able to collaborate via phone, email, etc., to complete expected job requirements.

Education: 60 or more completed college credits (or currently enrolled in college/university).

Experience: Prior experience as a tutor or experience working with at-risk youth.

Skills: Comfortable working with youth in a classroom or structured setting.

Clearances:

  • Ability to submit and pass an FBI–DOJ LiveScan background check (approx. $60–$70).
  • Submit negative TB test results (valid within 4 years).
  • Complete Child Abuse Mandated Reporter (CAMR) training.
  • Complete PREA Training (Prison Rape Elimination Act).

Additional:

  • Reliable transportation.
  • Proficient in supporting general academic subjects.
  • A technology device that will support job requirements (Computer/Laptop/Tablet).

  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) is a PLUS.
  • Punctual, reliable, and dedicated to student success.
  • Demonstrated expertise in supporting elementary through high school academics.
  • Maintain confidentiality with student Personal Identifiable Information (PII).
