UG Civil Inspector

Job Summary:
The Underground Civil Inspector is responsible for observing and monitoring the installation of underground electric distribution systems and other utilities placed within a joint trench configuration. This role ensures compliance with project specifications, safety requirements, and applicable standards while supporting field operations and documenting project progress.
Example of Duties:
- Observe the installation of underground electric distribution systems, cable TV, telephone, and other joint trench utilities
- Monitor work practices to ensure compliance with project plans, specifications, and safety guidelines
- Verify proper trench preparation, conduit placement, backfill, and installation methods
- Document daily activities, field conditions, and noteworthy issues
- Communicate with supervisors, contractors, and utility representatives regarding progress or concerns
- Identify potential hazards or deviations and report findings as needed
- Assist in reviewing site readiness, restoration, and overall work quality
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Ability to interpret basic construction drawings and specifications
- Strong attention to detail and observational skills
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Ability to recognize jobsite hazards and ensure safe work practices
- Ability to work independently while interacting professionally with field personnel
Experience/Education:
- Two or more years of experience in the trade
- OR certification by a duly constituted Outside Line Construction Local Union of the IBEW
Licenses/Certifications:
- Valid driver’s license with ability to maintain insurability
- Safety-related certifications (e.g., OSHA 10/30) preferred
