Designation: Radiology Technician

Department: Radiology / ImagingReports To: Radiologist / Medical Superintendent

Purpose of the Job

To perform diagnostic imaging procedures safely and accurately while ensuring patient safety, radiation protection and proper documentation as per hospital and NABH protocols.

Key ResponsibilitiesPatient Care

• Verify patient identity before procedure.
• Explain procedure and obtain cooperation/consent.
• Position patient correctly for imaging.
• Assist elderly, pediatric and emergency patients.
• Maintain patient dignity & privacy.

Imaging Procedures

• Perform X-Ray imaging as per doctor instructions.
• Assist Radiologist during special procedures.
• Ensure correct exposure factors & image quality.
• Repeat films only when medically necessary.
• Maintain proper film/digital image labeling.

Radiation Safety

• Follow ALARA principle.
• Use lead apron, thyroid shield & gonad shield.
• Provide protection to patient and attendants.
• Wear TLD badge and follow radiation monitoring policy.
• Restrict unauthorized entry in X-ray room.

Equipment Handling

• Operate and handle X-ray machine properly.
• Check machine before starting duty.
• Report malfunction immediately.
• Maintain cleanliness of equipment.
• Coordinate with biomedical engineer for breakdown.

Documentation & Records

• Maintain X-ray register & patient records.
• Upload/label digital images properly.
• Maintain radiation exposure records.
• Follow legal and medico-legal documentation.

Infection Control

• Follow hand hygiene protocol.
• Clean cassette, table & accessories after each patient.
• Use PPE when required.
• Follow BMW segregation policy.

Emergency Duties

• Assist in trauma & emergency imaging.
• Portable X-ray in ICU/ward/OT when required.
• Support CPR situations when instructed.

Accountability

• Patient safety during procedure
• Radiation protection compliance
• Image quality accuracy
• Proper documentation

Required Qualification

• Diploma / Degree in Radiology Technology (DMRT / BSc Radiology)
• Valid registration (if applicable)
