Summary:

The Quality Support Intern will assist in maintaining the highest quality of care for all assigned patients while gaining exposure to the regulatory requirements for quality measure compliance. This internship provides hands-on experience in staff coordination, outreach activities, and documentation related to quality measures in accordance with HEDIS and/or payer quality requirements.

The intern will report to the Senior Manager of Quality Improvement—Population Health and work closely with the Population Health Team. This internship is ideal for individuals passionate about healthcare quality, patient care outcomes, and learning how data-driven initiatives support value-based care programs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support coordination with medical practices and providers regarding health screenings, patient assessments, and well-care visits.
  • Assist in identifying workflow gaps and trends and contribute to best practice initiatives for improving performance in clinical and quality metrics.
  • Track assigned tasks to completion and provide progress updates to ensure positive performance outcomes.
  • Collect and enter data accurately and timely under supervision. Maintain organized records of interactions and demographic updates.
  • Help build and maintain professional relationships with health plan representatives, provider practices, and internal departments.
  • Learn and assist in conducting basic medical record reviews and abstractions following CMS and/or payor guidelines.
  • Collaborate with the Network and MSO departments to support initiatives that improve quality results.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA guidelines and company policies.
  • Proactively communicate any challenges or questions to supervisors.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the Population Health Team.

Required Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree/diploma in Healthcare Administration, Public Health, Nursing, or a related field.
  • Eagerness to learn about healthcare quality, compliance, and value-based care.
  • Basic understanding of the healthcare industry.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Ability to multitask and meet timelines with attention to detail.
  • Professional attitude and teamwork-oriented mindset.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with Electronic Medical Records (EMRs).
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Awareness of HIPAA compliance requirements.
