The Civil/Utility Superintendent is responsible for managing and overseeing all phases of civil and utility construction projects, including earthwork, water and sewer utility installations, and related site work. This role requires close coordination with Foremen, subcontractors, vendors, and field personnel to ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, within scope, and to the highest quality standards.
- Supervise all on-site civil and utility construction activities, including excavation, grading, underground utility installation, and site restoration.
- Direct field crews (5–15 employees) and subcontractors to maintain project schedules and ensure work is completed according to specifications.
- Interpret and enforce construction plans, blueprints, and specifications.
- Monitor job site progress and perform daily inspections to verify safety compliance and quality workmanship.
- Coordinate materials, equipment deliveries, and utility connections to avoid delays and optimize workflow.
- Conduct daily safety briefings and ensure adherence to OSHA, DOT, and company safety regulations.
- Investigate incidents, equipment failures, or safety concerns, and implement corrective measures promptly.
- Maintain accurate field documentation, including daily reports, employee logs, production data, and inspection records.
- Collaborate with Project Managers and Engineers to resolve construction challenges and meet project goals.
- Foster strong communication with clients, contractors, suppliers, and internal teams.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Must be willing to travel( typically Montgomery to Birmingham but may require out of state travel)
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 5+ years of experience as a Site Superintendent or Senior Foreman.
- In-depth knowledge of industrial construction, concrete work, site logistics, and equipment operations.
- Strong leadership and decision-making skills to manage teams and subcontractors effectively.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, and other stakeholders.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, structural drawings, and technical specifications.
- OSHA 30 certification required; additional safety certifications preferred.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and construction project management software.
- Valid, unencumbered driver’s license required.
