Job Purpose
The Veterinary Assistant supports veterinarians and veterinary nurses in delivering
high-quality, compassionate, and Fear Free patient care.
They assist with patient handling, treatment preparation, record keeping, and client
communication, ensuring smooth clinical operations and patient comfort at all times.
Key Responsibilities
1️Patient Care & Handling
● Gently restrain animals for examinations, procedures, and treatments using Fear
Free and low-stress techniques
● Assist veterinarians during consultations, surgeries, and diagnostic tests
● Monitor and comfort inpatients, providing feeding, walking, and cleaning as instructed
● Maintain cleanliness and comfort of wards, kennels, and treatment areas
2️Clinical Assistance
● Prepare and maintain equipment, surgical instruments, and treatment rooms
● Assist in sample collection, labeling, and submission (blood, urine, fecal, etc.)
● Support anesthesia monitoring and recovery under veterinary supervision
● Maintain accurate medical and treatment records for each patient
3️Client Communication & Service
● Greet and assist clients during check-in and discharge
● Communicate patient updates and care instructions clearly and empathetically
● Reinforce veterinarian’s instructions on medications, diet, and follow-ups
● Promote Fear Free and preventive care awareness among clients
4Inventory & Operational Support
● Restock medical supplies and ensure sterile maintenance of instruments
● Monitor inventory levels and inform supervisor for reordering
● Support clinic cleanliness, waste disposal, and infection control protocols
● Assist in maintaining medical logs, equipment calibration, and audit readiness
Skills & Competencies
Animal Handling Gentle restraint, behavioral observation, low-stress techniques
Technical Basic knowledge of veterinary procedures, equipment handling
Communication Empathy, clear explanation of instructions, teamwork
Organization Time management, attention to detail, record accuracy
Teamwork Collaborative and proactive support for veterinarians and nurses
Fear Free Practice
Understanding of Fear Free principles and patient comfort measures.
Qualifications
● Minimum: Diploma in Veterinary Assistant
● Desirable: Experience in a veterinary clinic, hospital, or shelter setting
● Training in Fear Free or low-stress handling (preferred)
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: ₹20,000.00 - ₹25,000.00 per month
