Key Responsibilities: Focus on Reproductive Health
The doctor must focus heavily on improving livestock reproductive efficiency.
1. Livestock (Buffalo & Cattle) Reproductive Management
- Infertility Diagnosis and Treatment: Identify, diagnose, and treat common reproductive disorders in livestock, such as Anoestrus (failure to show heat), Repeat Breeding, Endometritis, Pyometra, and Retained Placenta.
- Artificial Insemination (AI): Perform and supervise high-quality Artificial Insemination (AI) procedures in buffaloes and cattle, ensuring optimal timing for insemination to improve conception rates.
- Pregnancy Diagnosis: Conduct early and accurate pregnancy diagnosis using palpation and ultrasonography techniques in large animals.
- Obstetrics: Manage difficult births (Dystocia) and perform emergency procedures, including Caesarean sections, particularly in large animals.
- Herd Health: Develop and implement reproductive health programs and protocols for local farms to reduce economic losses from poor reproductive performance (long calving intervals, stillbirths, abortions).
2. General Veterinary Medicine & Public Health
- Provide general medical, surgical, and preventative care (e.g., vaccinations, deworming) for livestock.
Qualifications & Skills
- Education: Bachelor of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry (B.V.Sc. & A.H.)
- Experience: Proven clinical experience, particularly in large animal handling and reproductive procedures (AI, obstetrics, reproductive surgery).
