Job Title: Veterinary Nurse
Reports To: Veterinarian / Clinic Manager
Job Summary:
The Veterinary Nurse is responsible for assisting veterinarians in providing high-quality medical care to animals, ensuring patient safety, maintaining clinic hygiene, and supporting smooth daily operations of the veterinary clinic. The role involves patient care, surgical assistance, client communication, and administrative support.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Patient Care & Handling
- Safely restrain animals during examinations and procedures
- Monitor vital signs (temperature, heart rate, respiratory rate)
- Provide nursing care to hospitalized patients
- Administer medications, injections, and fluids as prescribed
- Assist in triage and emergency cases
2. Surgical Assistance
- Prepare patients for surgery (shaving, cleaning, pre-medication)
- Assist the veterinarian during surgical procedures
- Monitor anesthesia and recovery
- Maintain sterile surgical environment
- Post-operative monitoring and care
3. Laboratory & Diagnostics
- Collect samples (blood, urine, fecal, swabs)
- Run in-house lab tests (CBC, biochemistry, etc.)
- Assist in X-rays and other diagnostic procedures
- Maintain accurate medical records
4. Client Communication
- Educate pet owners on medications, aftercare, and preventive care
- Provide updates on hospitalized or surgical patients
- Schedule appointments and follow-ups when needed
- Support client queries in a professional and compassionate manner
5. Clinic Operations & Hygiene
- Maintain cleanliness and disinfection of clinic, wards, and equipment
- Sterilize surgical instruments and prepare treatment areas
- Ensure proper stock management of medicines and consumables
- Assist in inventory control and reporting low stock
6. Administrative Support
- Maintain patient records and treatment notes
- Assist with billing and documentation when required
- Support daily clinic workflow and coordination with the team
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Minimum 1–2 years of experience in a veterinary clinic (preferred)
- Knowledge of animal handling and basic veterinary procedures
- Ability to work in a fast-paced clinical environment
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Compassionate, patient, and detail-oriented
Working Conditions:
- Ability to handle animals of different sizes and temperaments
- May require standing for long hours
- Exposure to animals, surgical procedures, and medical equipment
- Flexible working hours, including weekends or emergencies if required
