Work Location

This position is eligible for remote work for candidates in Oregon who meet the program requirements, and may be asked to appear onsite or in person as needed.

Compensation

  • Base Salary: The full salary range for the Vice President, Commercial Loan Officer position is $10,020 to $14,066 per month, with new hires generally starting between $11,542 to $13,054 per month, based on relevant knowledge, skills, education, and experience. This range will be converted to semi-monthly ranges for exempt employees.
  • Incentives: This position is eligible for an annual incentive that is calculated using the team member’s prior year eligible earnings and ranges from 0%-15%.
  • Annual Incentive: In addition, all SELCO team members receive an annual incentive based on how well SELCO meets the prior year’s strategic business goals. This incentive is calculated using the team member’s prior year eligible earnings and ranges from 0%-12% (with the average payout over the last five years being 11.07%).

Position Overview

Provide quality service to existing members while actively developing new commercial and business banking relationships through business development and community engagement. Grow and maintain SELCO’s commercial loan portfolio, as well as participate in the development and support of other team members.

Position-specific Essential Functions

  • Develop and maintain commercial and business banking relationships by interviewing members and prospective borrowers requesting commercial and business banking services. Respond promptly to inquiries, address concerns, and ensure a positive lending experience.
  • Evaluate and interpret information related to borrowers and prospects, including management and business history, industry risks, environmental considerations, tax returns, and financial statements, in order to assess creditworthiness and structure appropriate lending solutions.
  • Decision or propose loan requests within assigned authority and ensure adherence to sound underwriting principles, SELCO Commercial & Business Banking policies and procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare information for and attend Business Loan Committee meetings and present loan requests or portfolio information as required.
  • Coordinate the preparation, documentation, and closing of commercial loan transactions, working closely with internal partners to ensure accurate and timely completion of required loan documents.
  • Develop and manage commercial lending relationships, supporting balanced portfolio growth while maintaining awareness of portfolio diversification and concentration limits established by SELCO’s lending policies and risk management guidelines.
  • Proactively monitor the performance, trends, and risk factors within the assigned commercial loan portfolio by maintaining regular contact with borrowers and key relationship contacts in order to identify emerging issues early and take appropriate action to mitigate risk.
  • Identify and promptly escalate emerging credit concerns, covenant violations, or adverse borrower developments to credit leadership and appropriate internal partners to ensure timely risk assessment and resolution.
  • Oversee collection and workout activities related to the assigned loan portfolio, working with internal teams and borrowers to resolve issues and protect the Credit Union’s interests.
  • Cross-sell and promote SELCO products and services to members and prospects while serving as a visible representative of the Credit Union in the community through business networking groups, chambers of commerce, industry associations, and community events to identify new relationship opportunities.
  • Prepare written and oral reports for SELCO management, the Board, and other internal stakeholders as required.
  • Provide guidance, assistance, and training to other Commercial & Business Banking team members as needed and serve as a resource for complex or unusual lending situations.

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent; and
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business or related field, or equivalent work experience; and
  • At least five (5) years of experience with commercial lending; and
  • Must be bondable.

Physical Demands

While performing the job duties, approximately 75% of the time is spent stationery, approximately 5% is spent moving around work areas, and as much as 20% may be spent out of the office meeting with existing or potential members or attending business or civic functions. Frequent communication occurs in person, over the phone, and in writing. This position requires the ability to view a computer screen and interpret printed materials and other documents. This position requires the ability to lift and transport up to 5 pounds, and there is an occasional need to stoop, kneel, or reach to access documents, equipment, and supplies.

Work areas are inside a climate-controlled environment with background noise.
