Video Producer

Community Documentary & Podcast Producer

About SR1

SR1 educates and improves the quality of life for all people. Based in the Jackson–Ridgeland, Mississippi area, we serve 600+ students and families every year through programs in education, health, and technology — all offered free, thanks to our donors and partners. Our work is built on an award-winning model that delivers real academic and social results for the people we serve.

About the role

We are hiring a Community Documentary & Podcast Producer to lead the storytelling behind our mission and to grow C.O.O.L.™ Media Network , SR1's YouTube channel, into a leader in community education media. You'll turn the everyday impact of our programs into documentaries, a podcast, and digital stories that move our community, inspire our donors, and educate a wider audience.

This is a hands-on, in-the-community role for a storyteller who can own the work end to end — from the first interview to the final upload. We're looking for someone who has genuinely studied film — who loves the craft, the language, and the art of it — and who tells stories from the community's own point of view, not from the outside looking in. Most of all, we want an entrepreneur: someone who treats C.O.O.L.™ Media Network like their own studio, builds high-quality educational videos, and chases real viewership and reach.

What you'll do

  • Plan, film, and edit documentary-style videos featuring our students, families, programs, and community impact
  • Produce a podcast that spotlights community voices, education, and SR1's mission
  • Shoot photography at programs and events for use in videos, the newsletter, social media, and donor materials
  • Build and grow C.O.O.L.™ Media Network (YouTube): content calendar, publishing, thumbnails, titles, and audience growth
  • Create short-form content for Instagram, Facebook, X, LinkedIn, and YouTube Shorts
  • Assist in producing SR1's digital newsletter — sourcing and contributing photos, stories, and video to feature
  • Develop donor-facing media — impact films, campaign videos, and year-in-review pieces
  • Own the full production pipeline: pre-production and storyboarding, shooting, lighting, audio, editing, color, graphics, and captions
  • Partner with program staff to find and shape the stories worth telling
  • Capture events, milestones, and success stories across our education, health, and technology programs
  • Manage media archives, equipment, and proper media releases (including consent for minors)

What you'll bring

  • A genuine love of film and the arts — coursework, self-study, or a body of work that shows you've studied the craft
  • 2+ years producing video and/or audio content (documentary, journalistic, branded, or nonprofit storytelling)
  • A portfolio or reel that shows your storytelling and editing (required)
  • An entrepreneurial mindset — you think like an owner of C.O.O.L.™ Media Network, not just a contributor, and you're driven to grow high-quality educational content into real viewership
  • Strong hands-on editing skills — you must be able to cut and finish your own video and audio in tools such as Adobe Premiere/Audition, Final Cut, or DaVinci Resolve
  • Photography skills for event and program coverage
  • Proficiency with cameras, lighting, and audio gear
  • Strong interviewing and story-building instincts
  • Experience publishing and growing a YouTube channel or similar platform
  • Comfort and warmth working with youth and families
  • A self-starter who can carry projects from idea to publish with minimal hand-holding
  • Reliable transportation and availability to work on-site in the Jackson–Ridgeland, MS area, including some evenings/weekends for events
  • A real connection to this community and SR1's mission

Bonus points

  • Motion graphics or animation skills
  • Experience with digital newsletter / email tools (e.g., Mailchimp, Constant Contact)
  • Experience with donor, grant, or fundraising storytelling
  • Drone experience (FAA Part 107)
  • Multilingual

What we offer

  • Mission-driven work with visible, lasting impact in your own community
  • Creative ownership of a growing media network from the ground up
  • A flexible part-time or full-time structure built around the right person
  • Compensation of $25,000–$50,000/yr, depending on experience and hours

How to apply

Send your resume and a link to your portfolio or reel to info@sr1tech.org (or apply through LinkedIn) . Tell us about a story you're proud to have told — and one you'd love to tell here.
