JOB DESCRIPTION: We Lead CS Computer Science Teacher - for AI, Cybersecurity, or Programming

Time Requirement: Full- or part-time; approximately 195 contract days per contract year. . Full-time: 8 hours a day, five-days-a-week or Part-time: 4-6 hours per day, 2-3 days a week (similar to college schedule M/W/F or T/TH/F. Must be available to provide synchronous instruction during hours of a traditional school day in the Eastern and Central time zones. Our teachers teach daily in virtual classrooms. This NOT a job where students do self-guided work and teachers do periodic checks on their progress as some jobs are in online virtual or postsecondary education. Some evening and after school work hours will be required for work with students and for meetings. All work requirements may be carried out virtually.

Salary Range: $50,000 - $85 000, based on education, verified experience and number of contract days.

Reports to: Director of Virtual Learning

Location: Remote work approved upon demonstration of sufficient internet access for remote teaching, dedicated work space, and time available for uninterrupted work.

Qualifications: A Bachelor’s degree with a valid Kentucky teaching certificate or eligibility for certification. Master’s degree with 18 hours of coursework in computer science is ideal. Candidates for teaching under the Kentucky Education Professional Standards Board’s alternative routes to certification will be considered.

Background Checks Required: In accordance with KRS 160.380, individuals employed by WLCS are required to submit to a national and state criminal background check by the Department of the Kentucky State Police and Federal Bureau of Investigation and have a clear CA/N check.

About We Lead CS:

The Kentucky General Assembly established We Lead CS (WLCS), Kentucky's virtual computer science career academy, to increase the Commonwealth's competitiveness in the tech economy and significantly expand Kentucky's capacity to educate and prepare high school students for the tech workforce.

In the 2024-2025 school year, WLCS began offering Kentucky eighth grade and high school students a jumpstart on computer science degrees in virtual, dual college credit career pathways – in computer programming, cybersecurity, and data science - and the opportunity to prepare for the workforce with many of America's leading tech employers. Students learn online from their schools with live, virtual instruction, out-of-class tutoring and support from WLCS teachers and College & Career Coaches, and work based learning.

WLCS Computer Science teachers will have a passion and excitement for developing innovative, personalized, and virtual learning opportunities for students and will:

· Teach computer science course content in daily, interactive, and live lessons.

· Deliver engaging, personalized instruction in a virtual classroom.

· Utilize multiple teaching strategies to meet students’ unique needs.

· Tutor students outside of class time in a pre-determined schedule established collaboratively with other We Lead CS teachers or as determined by WLCS CEO or WLCS Supervisor.

· Assess student progress, provide targeted feedback, and adjust teaching strategies to ensure students’ success.

· Teach and support students with different educational backgrounds and experiences from diverse geographic locations in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

· Team teach with fellow We Lead CS teachers and coaches and collaborate with employers and community partners to expand students’ learning opportunities.

· Lead student preparation for and participation in Career and Technical Student Organizations, including Technology Student Association, Student Technology Leadership Program, and the INTERalliance Tech Olympics.

· Collaborate with employer partners to develop and facilitate student participation in challenge learning projects and programs.

· Efficiently utilize Learning Management Systems.

· Perform any other duties that may be assigned by the WLCS CEO or WLCS supervisor.
