Position Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Virtual Production (VP) Technician to maintain and operate our innovative VP studio in Oklahoma City. This is a critical, hands-on technical role requiring deep, practical expertise in the setup, calibration, and real-time operation of the LED volume infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have specialized knowledge in Disguise software, LED panels, Brompton processors, media servers, and Unreal Engine 5 configuration. This role is solely focused on ensuring the smooth, reliable, and high-quality technical execution of all virtual production shoots through expert-level setup, maintenance, and rapid troubleshooting. Role includes, but not limited to, assisting the production crew with traditional production roles as needed when not actively engaged in VP operations.

Essential Job Functions

  • Hardware & Software Maintenance: Perform the installation, configuration, and real-time operation of all virtual production hardware and software components.
  • LED Volume Operation: Administer and operate the LED volume and its associated infrastructure, including LED panels, Brompton processors, and auxiliary video signal distribution.
  • Media Server Management: Configure and operate media server networking and maintenance.
  • Live Production Technology: Configure and operate ancillary live production equipment, including live switchers, signal converters, and video routers, for integrated real-time broadcasts or streams.
  • Disguise Operator: Manage the Disguise software to ensure the quality and performance of our systems.
  • Camera Tracking Integration: Configure and operate camera tracking systems and ensure reliable data integration with Unreal Engine and the LED processor pipeline.
  • On-Set Troubleshooting: Provide expert, real-time technical support and rapidly resolve issues related to hardware, software, networking, and real-time rendering during pre-production setup and live shoots.
  • System Maintenance & Calibration: Perform routine maintenance, calibration, and quality control checks on the LED panels, and Brompton processors to ensure optimal performance and visual output.
  • Network Diagnostics: Diagnose and resolve networking issues (e.g. genlock, network devices, feed mapping, high-bandwidth connectivity) critical to the VP pipeline.
  • Technical R&D & Advisement: Stay current with the latest virtual production technology, tools, and technical best practices, advising the Senior Manager on necessary technical solutions and system upgrades.
  • Clear Communication: Clearly communicate technical statuses, issues, and solutions to the Senior Manager and production crew.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues under pressure are required.
  • Traditional Production Crew: Assist the production crew with traditional production roles as needed (e.g., set assistance, basic lighting setup, grip work) when not actively engaged in VP operations.

Education/Training

  • Bachelor's degree in Game Development, Digital Media, Film Production, or a related technical field, and/or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience in virtual production, LED Volumes, real-time graphics, or a closely related field.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • Expert, hands-on proficiency in operating and configuring virtual production systems, including Disguise software.
  • In-depth knowledge of LED video wall technology, including panel specifications, processing units, and calibration processes.
  • Strong understanding of media server software and their integration within a virtual production pipeline.
  • Experience with camera tracking systems and their integration with Unreal Engine.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues under pressure.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment and independently.
  • Expert-level proficiency on traditional production sets in various roles.
  • Familiarity with network protocols and infrastructure relevant to virtual production (e.g., PTP, genlock, high-bandwidth networking).
  • A portfolio demonstrating strong technical artistry and successful virtual production projects.
