Visiting Assistant Professor, Psychology

The College of Idaho invites applications for a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor in

psychology to start in August 2026. We seek candidates who share the College’s commitment

to creating an inclusive academic community through their teaching and scholarly activity.

The Visiting Assistant Professor is a non-tenure track position with teaching as the primary

responsibility. Successful applicants will be prepared to teach required courses in general

psychology and research methods. The ability to teach a survey course in cognitive psychology,

biological psychology, or related topics is also important. The annual teaching load is 7 courses

distributed as 3 fall, 1 winter, 3 spring. The College supports an innovative Winter Term during

which the psychology department offers exploratory and specialized courses in the faculty

member's area of expertise. Actual course assignments will be determined based on the

candidate’s experience and departmental needs.

The successful candidate will be an active scholar interested in strengthening undergraduate

students' research knowledge and skills. The College provides modest funds for professional

development and conference travel. For candidates with active research agendas, the

psychology department supports an undergraduate subject pool, data collection facilities,

community connections, and online data collection resources. Students are regular

collaborators through course projects, research courses, work-study employment, and research

theses in their graduating year.

Qualifications

A Ph.D. in psychology or a related field is required at the time of appointment. Advanced ABD

candidates will be considered.

Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States as of the expected hire date and

throughout the date of the contract without sponsorship from the College.

(3) a comprehensive cover letter that must:

(a) describe the applicant's expertise and preparation for this position with some

consideration of the College mission and the psychology department curriculum,

(b) summarize the applicant's teaching philosophy and teaching experience with some

discussion of teaching effectiveness, and

(c) include names and contact information for three professional recommendations, at

least one of which must be a colleague who directly observed the applicant's teaching.

(4) documents that support the discussion of teaching effectiveness, for example: a sample

syllabus, an assignment or in-class activity, student artifacts, faculty feedback on

teaching, or student feedback on teaching
