You’ll plan, design, and create interactive illustrations and data-driven artifacts that make complex information click for users. This means designing programmatic visualisations, building scrapers that pull useful signals from noise across the web, and analysing datasets to find angles nobody else has spotted. Your work will support both editorial projects and experimental initiatives, so you’ll move fluidly between journalistic investigation and strategic undertakings.
You have top-notch technical acumen:
Strong programming skills—Python, JavaScript, or similar
Experience with data visualisation libraries and frameworks
Proficiency in web scraping and API integration
Solid grasp of data analysis and manipulation
Comfortable working with databases and managing large datasets
You also have sharp editorial instincts:
Keen narrative intuition
The sense to identify compelling stories rooted in data
Clear communication skills to connect with technical and general audiences
Understanding of journalistic ethics and data privacy
Experience working in newsroom environments or similar cross-disciplinary, collaborative settings
Design and build interactive data visualisations and web-based artifacts
Develop data pipelines to collect information at scale
Analyse datasets to identify undiscovered patterns and insights
Collaborate with reporters and editors to enhance storytelling
Support business team initiatives with data-driven insights
Maintain and optimise data infrastructure for ongoing projects
You love the journeys of locating the perfect dataset, debugging a misbehaving scraper, and figuring out how to visualise a project that nobody has tackled before. You believe in making information simultaneously accessible and aesthetically engaging. The bigger and more unique the project, the more exciting it is for you.
This role is for someone who wants their work to matter by crafting great stories that haven’t been told before, and who chooses to work at the intersection of code, data, and narrative building.
