Duties
- Lead and coordinate volunteer firefighting teams during emergency incidents, ensuring rapid and organized responses.
- Develop and implement fire prevention programs, safety protocols, and training sessions for volunteers.
- Conduct regular inspections of fire equipment, vehicles, and facilities to maintain operational readiness.
- Oversee maintenance of firefighting apparatus, including mechanical repairs and routine checks.
- Collaborate with local authorities on fire safety regulations, community outreach initiatives, and emergency planning.
- Manage incident reports, response logs, and safety documentation accurately and promptly.
- Provide first aid, basic life support (BLS), CPR training, and other emergency medical assistance as needed.
Requirements
- Proven experience in emergency medical services (EMT experience preferred), with certifications in first aid, CPR, and basic life support. Alabama Fire College Certification considered a plus.
- Valid commercial driver’s license with experience in commercial driving or operating emergency vehicles.
- Mechanical knowledge related to fire trucks, rescue equipment, or similar machinery.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely during rescue operations or equipment handling.
- Strong understanding of vital signs assessment and emergency medical procedures.
- Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to motivate volunteers under pressure.
- Physical fitness to handle demanding tasks such as climbing ladders or performing strenuous rescue activities. - Knowledge in fire science, public administration, or a related field, leadership training in emergency management, experience in community engagement and public relations.
- Experience in budget management and resource allocation, strong analytical and problem solving skills.
- Must possess a valid Alabama Driver's license with the ability to be insured by the towns liability insurance carrier.
