Job Summary
The Ward In-Charge is responsible for overall management, coordination, and supervision of nursing and support staff in the assigned ward. The role ensures high-quality patient care, proper documentation, discipline, and adherence to hospital policies, NABH standards, and clinical protocols.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical & Patient Care
- Ensure safe, ethical, and quality nursing care to all admitted patients.
- Supervise patient admission, transfer, and discharge processes.
- Monitor vital signs, medication administration, and nursing procedures.
- Handle patient and relative grievances and ensure patient satisfaction.
- Coordinate with doctors for treatment plans and emergency situations.
Staff Management
- Plan and manage duty rosters for ward nursing and support staff.
- Supervise, guide, and evaluate performance of staff nurses and attendants.
- Ensure discipline, punctuality, and adherence to dress code.
- Conduct ward handovers and ensure proper shift communication.
- Train new staff and ensure adherence to SOPs.
Administrative Duties
- Maintain accurate nursing records, census, and documentation.
- Ensure proper utilization and maintenance of ward equipment.
- Monitor inventory of medicines, consumables, and linen.
- Report incidents, shortages, and equipment malfunctions.
- Ensure infection control practices and biomedical waste management.
Quality & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with NABH, hospital policies, and statutory requirements.
- Participate in audits, inspections, and quality improvement activities.
- Ensure patient privacy, dignity, and confidentiality at all times.
- Implement hospital safety, fire, and emergency protocols.
Qualifications & Experience
- GNM / B.Sc. Nursing
- Minimum 4–5 years of clinical experience
- At least 1–2 years in a supervisory or senior nursing role
