Job Summary

The Ward In-Charge is responsible for overall management, coordination, and supervision of nursing and support staff in the assigned ward. The role ensures high-quality patient care, proper documentation, discipline, and adherence to hospital policies, NABH standards, and clinical protocols.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical & Patient Care

• Ensure safe, ethical, and quality nursing care to all admitted patients.
• Supervise patient admission, transfer, and discharge processes.
• Monitor vital signs, medication administration, and nursing procedures.
• Handle patient and relative grievances and ensure patient satisfaction.
• Coordinate with doctors for treatment plans and emergency situations.

Staff Management

• Plan and manage duty rosters for ward nursing and support staff.
• Supervise, guide, and evaluate performance of staff nurses and attendants.
• Ensure discipline, punctuality, and adherence to dress code.
• Conduct ward handovers and ensure proper shift communication.
• Train new staff and ensure adherence to SOPs.

Administrative Duties

• Maintain accurate nursing records, census, and documentation.
• Ensure proper utilization and maintenance of ward equipment.
• Monitor inventory of medicines, consumables, and linen.
• Report incidents, shortages, and equipment malfunctions.
• Ensure infection control practices and biomedical waste management.

Quality & Compliance

• Ensure compliance with NABH, hospital policies, and statutory requirements.
• Participate in audits, inspections, and quality improvement activities.
• Ensure patient privacy, dignity, and confidentiality at all times.
• Implement hospital safety, fire, and emergency protocols.

Qualifications & Experience

• GNM / B.Sc. Nursing
• Minimum 4–5 years of clinical experience
• At least 1–2 years in a supervisory or senior nursing role
