Job Title: Ward Nurse
Department: Nursing / Inpatient Ward
Reports to: Ward Sister / Charge Nurse / Nurse Manager
Job Purpose:
To provide high-quality nursing care to patients admitted to the ward, ensuring their physical, emotional, and psychological needs are met. The Ward Nurse works as part of a multidisciplinary team to promote recovery, maintain patient safety, and deliver evidence-based care.
Key Responsibilities:Patient Care:
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualised nursing care plans for patients.
- Administer prescribed medications and treatments accurately and safely.
- Monitor, record, and report changes in patients’ conditions to senior staff or doctors.
- Assist with personal care needs, such as hygiene, mobility, nutrition, and comfort.
- Prepare patients for investigations, procedures, and discharge.
Clinical Duties:
- Maintain accurate and timely nursing documentation in accordance with hospital policies.
- Ensure infection prevention and control standards are adhered to.
- Manage medical equipment safely and report faults promptly.
- Participate in ward rounds and multidisciplinary meetings.
Communication:
- Provide clear, compassionate communication with patients, families, and carers.
- Collaborate effectively with doctors, allied health professionals, and other nursing staff.
- Educate patients and families about treatment plans and post-discharge care.
Professional Development:
- Participate in continuing education and training programs.
- Maintain professional registration and adhere to nursing code of conduct.
- Support and mentor junior staff, student nurses, and healthcare assistants.
Health & Safety:
- Maintain a safe and clean environment for patients, staff, and visitors.
- Follow all hospital policies on incident reporting, manual handling, and emergency procedures.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Registered Nurse (RN) with a valid nursing license/registration.
- Diploma or Degree in Nursing.
- Experience in general ward nursing or relevant specialty preferred (e.g., medical, surgical).
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) or Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
