Warehouse Specialist (Laredo)

POSITION SUMMARY

The Warehouse Specialist is responsible for performing and overseeing all loading activities that directly affect the safe operation of commercial motor vehicles (CMVs) used in interstate commerce. This role exercises independent judgment in determining load configuration, weight distribution, and securement methods to ensure compliance with DOT regulations and prevent shifting, damage, or safety hazards during transport. The Warehouse Specialist plays a key role in supporting drivers and operations by ensuring freight is safely and properly prepared for outbound interstate shipments.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Safety-Affecting Duties

  • Determines appropriate placement, configuration, and weight distribution of freight on commercial motor vehicles (CMVs), including vans, box trucks, tractor-trailers, and flatbeds.
  • Exercises discretion and independent judgment to ensure freight is loaded in accordance with DOT safety standards, carrier requirements, and company policy.
  • Secures all freight using appropriate methods (e.g., straps, load bars, chains, blocking, bracing, shrink-wrapping) to prevent shifting or movement during interstate transport.
  • Inspects final loaded trailers for proper securement and safety compliance.
  • Provides direction to Warehouse Associates during loading and securement activities.
  • Signs off on / documents load securement completion prior to driver departure.

Warehouse Duties

  • Loads freight that will be transported across state lines or that is part of an interstate movement (including freight that originates in one state and completes its journey in another).
  • Communicates with dispatchers and drivers regarding load distribution, trailer readiness, and securement requirements for interstate shipments.
  • Verifies that freight is properly labeled, staged, and documented for interstate transport.

In addition to MCA-qualifying duties, the Warehouse Specialist performs routine warehouse activities including:

  • Operates material-handling equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, clamp trucks, or reach trucks.
  • Loads and unloads inbound and outbound freight.
  • Stages, scans, labels, picks, and organizes freight as needed to support operations.
  • Ensure goods are stored, labeled, and secured.
  • Performs quality checks to verify freight condition and accuracy.
  • Maintains clean, organized, and safe warehouse areas.
  • Assists with cycle counts, inventory checks, and warehouse documentation.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Understanding of DOT loading and securement safety regulations.
  • Knowledge of proper weight distribution and load-planning techniques.
  • Ability to use judgment and make decisions about load placement and securement to ensure safe interstate transport.
  • Ability to use forklifts and warehouse equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Strong communication skills to support coordination with drivers and dispatch.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple outbound schedules.
  • Indoor/outdoor warehouse environment.
  • Exposure to varying temperatures, noise, and equipment.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, and lift throughout shift.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Prior experience in warehouse or loading experience is a plus.
  • Forklift certification or ability to obtain certification.
  • Experience with freight securement strongly preferred.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. and work in warehouse environment.
  • Willingness to comply with random drug testing in accordance with our insurance policy.
