Position Summary

The Web Developer is a member of the CCC Information Technology Services team responsible for the development, administration, and support of the College's public website, SharePoint environment, and Student Portal. This role ensures that digital platforms are user-friendly, accessible, secure, and aligned with institutional goals. The Web Developer provides technical expertise and backend support for the website’s infrastructure and functionality, working in close collaboration with the Marketing and Communications department, which oversees the website’s content, design, and front-facing presentation. The position involves collaboration across departments, technical problem-solving, and a strong focus on usability, accessibility, and content governance. This is a full-time, benefit-eligible position.

Salary & Benefits:

  • Anticipated Hiring Range: $55,033 - $68,241/annual - depending on education and experience
  • Cafeteria Plan: In addition to the base compensation, benefits-eligible employees receive an extra $6,720 per year to put toward benefit costs or to be used as additional take-home pay
  • Paid Holidays: 21 (including a full week off between Christmas and New Year’s Day and over Spring Break)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintains and supports the technical functionality of the College’s public-facing website within the WordPress Content Management System (CMS).
  • Works collaboratively with the Marketing and Communications department, providing secondary support for front-end design implementation. Administers and manages the College's SharePoint environment, including site design, content organization, user permissions, accessibility compliance, and security oversight.
  • Manages the Student Portal, ensuring reliable access, content accuracy, usability, accessibility compliance, and secure user access controls across all divisions.
  • Supports content governance processes by providing technical guidance and access management for departmental content editors, in coordination with the Marketing and Communications department, which oversees content strategy and editorial standards. Provides one-on-one training and support for departmental content editors in managing their areas within the CMS, SharePoint environment, and Student Portal.
  • Creates, maintains and provides technical documentation for web platforms and related systems.
  • Consults with stakeholders to gather requirements, recommend solutions, and implement changes.
  • Continuously evaluates and improves user experience across digital platforms through usability testing, stakeholder feedback, A/B testing, and iterative design enhancements.
  • Assists with third-party web applications and integrations.
  • Maintains multiple environments (e.g., development, staging, production) of the CMS to support testing, deployment, and version control.
  • Applies security best practices in web development, including updates, access control, secure coding standards, and vulnerability mitigation.
  • Works closely with the Director of Infrastructure Services and the Director of Marketing and Communications to ensure digital platforms meet functional, branding, accessibility, and security needs, and align web strategy with institutional priorities.
  • Maintains documentation related to web systems, processes, and configurations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Proficiency in current web development standards and design principles.
  • Proficiency in the WordPress CMS, including themes, child themes, plugins, and customizations.
  • Experience managing and supporting WordPress page builders (e.g., Gutenberg, Elementor, WPBakery).
  • Strong understanding of SEO fundamentals, including metadata optimization, sitemap management, structured data/schema markup, on-page SEO best practices, and integration with SEO tools.
  • Familiarity with optimizing website content and metadata to improve discoverability and relevance in AI-driven search and summarization tools.
  • Experience with SharePoint site administration, user access, and content management.
  • Strong working knowledge of HTML, PHP, CSS, JavaScript, jQuery, and related front-end technologies.
  • Strong understanding of digital accessibility standards, including Section 508 compliance, WCAG 2.1 guidelines, and ARIA (Accessible Rich Internet Applications) specifications.
  • Ability to implement accessible web design features such as semantic HTML, ARIA roles, keyboard navigation, and screen reader compatibility.
  • Understanding of UI/UX principles and ability to apply user-centered design practices to improve usability and engagement.
  • Familiarity with web hosting environments and related tools including cPanel.
  • Knowledge of database design and management using MySQL or MariaDB.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills.
  • Effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to create clear documentation and deliver end-user training.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, set priorities, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Availability to work outside normal business hours and participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Web Development, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of professional experience in web development, digital content management, or related technical roles.
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Preferred
  • Advanced understanding of WordPress architecture, including custom post types, taxonomies, and theme development.
  • Advanced understanding of web analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics), including setting up tracking, tags, interpreting data, and applying insights to improve site performance and user engagement.
  • Experience with performance optimization techniques, including caching strategies, image compression, lazy loading, and CDN integration.
  • Experience with managing and updating Linux environments.
  • Experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS).
  • Experience with graphic design tools such as Photoshop and Illustrator (or similar).
  • Knowledge of advanced security hardening practices specific to WordPress and SharePoint, including vulnerability scanning, access control policies, and secure deployment workflows.
  • Familiarity with higher education web environments, including governance models, compliance requirements, and stakeholder collaboration.
  • Familiarity with WordPress REST API for integrating external systems or building custom features.
  • Experience working with RESTful APIs, JSON, and data integrations between platforms.
  • Understanding of content strategy, editorial workflows, and decentralized content management models.
  • Ability to self-manage projects using structured approaches inspired by agile, iterative, or DevOps methodologies.
  • Experience with cross-browser and device testing, including automated testing tools and responsive design validation.
  • Advanced understanding of web analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics, Microsoft Clarity, Matomo), including setting up tracking, interpreting data, and applying insights to improve site performance and user engagement.
  • Experience managing Google Custom Search Engine (CSE) configurations and integrations.
  • Familiarity with Google Business and Apple Business platforms, including profile management, optimization, and integration with web properties.
