Job Summary
The Website Designer is responsible for designing custom websites, prototyping within a WordPress environment, and refining designs based on client feedback. This role works closely with the Project Manager and Director of Technical Operations to ensure designs align with client expectations, brand guidelines, and modern web trends.
In addition to design, the Website Designer builds complete websites using provided content and sitemaps, handles site edits and new page creation, and assists with ongoing website management tasks. This role requires strong familiarity with WordPress and common agency workflows.
Beyond core responsibilities, the Website Designer is expected to contribute to team growth by improving processes, assisting in training Jr. Website Designers, and identifying opportunities for operational and creative improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Website Design (35%)
- Design visually appealing, user-friendly web pages that align with client branding and design standards.
- Develop engaging digital experiences that follow modern web design principles.
- Collaborate with the Project Manager to refine designs based on client feedback.
- Work primarily on internal design execution, without direct client presentations.
Website Development & Management (55%)
- Prototype website designs within WordPress using Pro Theme and Cornerstone.
- Build fully functional websites using provided content and sitemaps.
- Apply working knowledge of HTML, CSS, and basic JavaScript to refine layouts and interactions.
- Work with a variety of WordPress plugins, including eCommerce tools such as WooCommerce.
- Assist with website updates, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Implement site edits, create new pages, and respond to client support requests.
- Support website launches, including final checks, admin setup, and go-live readiness.
- Assist with DNS management, Cloudflare configuration, and domain-related updates as needed.
Process Improvement & Training (5%)
- Contribute to team development by identifying process improvements and efficiencies.
- Assist in training and mentoring Jr. Website Designers.
Client Support (5%)
- Respond to client inquiries through the ticketing system.
- Document all client interactions and updates within the ticketing system for internal reference.
- Occasionally schedule online meetings with client to clarify support requests.
Professional Development (5%)
- Stay up to date with web design trends, WordPress advancements, and best practices.
- Maintain HIPAA compliance training (if applicable).
- Participate in ongoing training in UX/UI best practices, accessibility (WCAG standards), and SEO for web design.
Qualifications
- Proven experience working in a digital or web agency environment, managing multiple client websites simultaneously.
- Ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines, and adapt in a fast-paced agency setting.
- Strong proficiency in WordPress, including site builds, updates, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, and basic JavaScript for layout adjustments, styling, and minor interactivity.
- Experience working with a wide range of WordPress plugins, including eCommerce solutions such as WooCommerce.
- Familiarity with website administration and launch processes, including user management, backups, staging, and go-live workflows.
- Basic understanding of DNS management, domains, and hosting concepts.
- Experience working with Cloudflare (or similar tools) for DNS, security, or performance-related tasks is a plus.
- Comfort operating in a ticket-based support environment with strong attention to detail and documentation.
- Understanding of SEO fundamentals, accessibility standards (WCAG), and responsive design principles.
