The San Francisco Peninsula (SFP) is the Destination Marketing Organization (DMO) responsible for promoting travel and tourism to the region (San Mateo County), which spans bayside to coastside - south of San Francisco and north of San Jose.


Job Summary

The Website Manager will own and optimize our digital property. This role is all about making our website work harder—ensuring clean architecture, improving the user experience with compelling, optimized content, and using data to drive continuous improvements. This position is the technical expert who keeps our CMS running smoothly while identifying opportunities to enhance performance. 


Reports to the Director of Marketing 


Essential Functions

Essential responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following (responsibilities are subject to review and change as needed):


Content Management + Strategy

• Manage our content management system as the primary administrator, maintaining site architecture, taxonomy, and content organization.

• Build and optimize campaign-specific landing pages for major initiatives like Super Bowl LX, World Cup 2026, and seasonal promotions, ensuring web presence aligns with multi-channel marketing campaigns.

• Conduct regular site audits to ensure all links, forms, and content function properly across devices and browsers.

• Optimize website performance by monitoring analytics, identifying friction points, and implementing improvements. You'll translate data into actionable changes that enhance user experience and drive business results.

• Test new features and updates before deployment, maintaining a testing protocol for partner-facing tools and booking integrations.

• Serve as the point person for urgent website updates, maintaining protocols for quick content pivots.

• Maintain and improve site functionality through basic HTML/CSS updates, troubleshooting technical issues, and coordinating with developers when needed. You don't need to be a software engineer, but you should be comfortable working with code.

• Maintain website security protocols, including SSL certificates, plugin updates, and vulnerability monitoring to protect visitor data and partner information.

• Serve as the main owner when new integrations take place and oversee a smooth onboarding experience for new additions to the website (AI or other).


SEO + Analytics

• Establish and maintain taxonomy and metadata standards to keep our content organized and findable. You'll create the systems that help us scale our content efficiently.

• Monitor website analytics to spot trends, identify problems, and uncover opportunities. You'll be the person who notices when something breaks or when user behavior shifts.

• Partner with Social and Communications on identifying content needs to ensure optimal SEO.

• Monitor competitor DMO websites and emerging digital trends in destination marketing, recommending new features or functionality based on industry best practices.


User Experience + Design

• You'll ensure our website structure makes sense for both users and search engines.

• Ensure website accessibility and performance standards are met, keeping load times fast and the site usable for all visitors.

• Develop and maintain documentation for internal team members on CMS processes and provide guidance to partners on updating their listings and maximizing their web presence. Partner Integration + Coordination

• Work closely with our external partners (brand, CMS, AI, calendar, UCG, etc) to ensure seamless integration and optimization of all existing and third-party applications.


IT Coordination & Technology Management

• Act as the main point of contact for the company's external IT firm, ensuring staff technology tickets are resolved quickly and efficiently.

• Communicate upcoming technology updates, system changes, and maintenance schedules to the team proactively.

• Identify hardware needs across the organization and coordinate proactive maintenance to minimize downtime.

• Forecast future hardware and technology needs to assist leadership in developing the annual technology budget.

• Ensure staff have the tools and technical support needed to work effectively, serving as the internal technology advocate.


Qualifications

• 3-5 years of proven experience managing enterprise CMS platforms (WordPress, Drupal, AEM, or similar). You've been the person responsible for keeping a complex website running. SimpleView CMS experience is a definite plus.

• Strong understanding of website architecture, information architecture, and taxonomy principles. You know how to organize content so people can find what they need.

• Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, and how websites function. You can read code, make basic updates, and communicate effectively with developers.

• Expertise in Google Analytics 4 and similar platforms. You know which metrics matter and how to use data to drive decisions and can create reports that inform Marketing strategy.

• Basic familiarity with JavaScript and modern web frameworks is a plus.

• Understanding of SEO fundamentals and how technical site structure impacts search performance.

• Detail-oriented approach with strong organizational skills. Nothing falls through the cracks on your watch.

• Ability to balance multiple priorities and work independently. You see what needs doing and you do it.

• You know how to translate technical issues into clear requests and communicate IT updates to non-technical team members.

• Understanding of common business technology needs including hardware lifecycles, software licensing, and basic network infrastructure.

• Strong communication skills with ability to train and support both internal team members and external partners on website functionality.


The Website Manager is an exempt at-will employee of the San Mateo County/ Silicon Valley Convention and Visitors Bureau (dba The San Francisco Peninsula) according to the Fair Labor Standards Act. The normal business hours are Monday through Thursday, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, Friday, 8:30 am to 4:00 pm, and when necessary, evenings and weekend work may be required. Remote work is currently available on Mondays and Fridays when the schedule allows.
