Purpose: The Weekend Cook is responsible for managing the daily operations of SSEH’s food service cafeteria every Friday to Monday from 2:00 pm to 6:30 pm. Duties include preparing meals, maintaining cleanliness, and supervising resident kitchen assignments.
Primary Duties:
- Prepare, oversee, and serve meals (with resident support) during scheduled work hours.
- Supervise residents during their assigned kitchen training tasks: food prep, serving, cleanup, donation processing, and setting up for the next meal.
- Provide the Cafeteria Manager with updated food inventory used during shifts.
- Assist volunteers delivering or donating meals.
- Follow all SSEH policies, procedures, and Code of Ethics.
Qualifications & Skills:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical college preferred.
- ServSafe® certification required (or must be obtained within 30 days of hire).
- At least 2 years of food service or kitchen management experience preferred.
- Ability to effectively uphold established kitchen and SSEH procedures.
- Must pass DHS background study requirements.
- Experience preferred with individuals experiencing homelessness, mental health challenges, or chemical health issues.
- Able to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Comfortable working in a diverse community setting.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to lift/carry 30+ pounds (e.g., donations) on SSEH property.
About Stepping Stone Emergency Housing (SSEH):
Stepping Stone Emergency Housing provides shelter and supportive services for adults (18+) experiencing homelessness, helping them move toward self-sufficiency. We operate three programs:
- Shelter: A 66-bed facility in Anoka providing meals, laundry, showers, case management, and more.
- Long-Term Housing (LTH): Case management and support for up to 20 stably housed Anoka County residents.
- Hotel Program: Created during COVID-19, currently serving residents in Anoka and Washington Counties until permanent facilities are developed.
Stepping Stone is the only organization of its kind in Anoka, Washington, Dakota, Scott, and Carver counties and is part of the Suburban Metro Area Continuum of Care.
