Hayden Industrial, a leading manufacturer of industrial cooling systems, is seeking a Weld & Machine Shop Supervisor to join our team in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The Weld & Machine Shop Supervisor is responsible for overseeing all welding and machining activities within the facility, ensuring adherence to safety standards, quality requirements, and production schedules. This role involves managing welders, machinists, and machine operators; coordinating with engineering, production, maintenance, and quality departments; and implementing best practices to achieve high-quality results and efficient production processes
Key Responsibilities:
Team Leadership and Management
- Supervise and lead a team of welders, machinists, CNC operators, and machine shop personnel, providing guidance, training, and support.
- Schedule and assign welding and machining tasks based on project requirements, production priorities, and employee capabilities.
- Conduct performance evaluations and address performance, attendance, or disciplinary issues.
- Train, mentor, and develop employees to improve technical skills, productivity, and workmanship.
- Support employee certification programs and maintain qualification records as required.
- Promote cross-training initiatives to increase workforce flexibility and departmental capability.
Quality Control
- Ensure all welding and machining operations meet required quality standards, customer specifications, and engineering requirements.
- Perform regular inspections and testing of welds, including Visual Inspection, PT (Liquid Penetrant Testing), and Pressure Testing as applicable.
- Verify machined components meet blueprint specifications, tolerances, and quality requirements using precision measuring instruments.
- Ensure compliance with engineering drawings, welding procedures, codes, standards, and customer requirements.
- Implement and enforce quality control procedures and maintain required documentation.
- Support root cause investigations and corrective actions related to quality concerns and non-conforming products.
Safety and Compliance
- Promote and enforce a culture of safety throughout the welding and machine shop departments.
- Ensure all welding and machining activities comply with OSHA regulations, company policies, and applicable industry standards.
- Conduct regular safety audits, toolbox talks, and employee safety training.
- Ensure proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and safe operation of equipment and machinery.
- Maintain compliance with applicable AWS, ASME, and customer-specific requirements.
Production Planning and Process Improvement
- Coordinate welding and machining operations to meet production schedules and customer delivery requirements.
- Monitor workflow, labor utilization, and production output to maximize efficiency and productivity.
- Identify and implement process improvements to reduce cycle times, minimize waste, improve quality, and increase throughput.
- Support Lean Manufacturing, 5S, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Stay current with advancements in welding technologies, CNC machining, tooling, and manufacturing best practices.
- Assist with manpower planning and staffing adjustments to meet changing production demands.
Equipment and Maintenance
- Ensure welding equipment, CNC machines, manual mills, lathes, saws, and other production equipment are properly maintained and operating efficiently.
- Coordinate preventative maintenance activities and major repairs with the maintenance department.
- Monitor tooling, welding consumables, and equipment condition.
- Recommend equipment upgrades, tooling improvements, and capital investments as necessary.
- Ensure preventative maintenance programs are completed and documented.
Documentation and Reporting
- Maintain accurate records of welding and machining activities, production reports, quality inspections, maintenance activities, and employee certifications.
- Track departmental performance metrics including productivity, quality, safety, and delivery performance.
- Prepare and present reports to management regarding operational performance, challenges, and improvement opportunities.
- Monitor inventory levels of welding consumables, tooling, gases, and production supplies.
Coordination and Communication
- Collaborate with Engineering, Production, Quality Assurance, Maintenance, Purchasing, and Operations teams to ensure smooth workflow and project execution.
- Participate in production planning meetings and communicate priorities effectively to department personnel.
- Address technical issues, production challenges, and schedule changes in a timely manner.
- Support customer audits, internal audits, and third-party inspections as required.
- Assist the Operations Manager in achieving departmental and company objectives.
Cost Control and Resource Management
- Monitor labor efficiency, material usage, tooling costs, and consumable expenditures.
- Identify opportunities to reduce operational costs while maintaining safety and quality standards.
- Support budget planning and provide recommendations for staffing, equipment, and resource allocation.
- Ensure efficient utilization of departmental resources to achieve production goals.
Hayden Industrial has determined this position involves safety-sensitive job duties and will be considered a safety-sensitive position for purpose of the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana and Patient Protection Act (“The Unity Bill.”) effective August 29th, 2019.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Welding Technology, Manufacturing Technology, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of welding and/or machining experience, with at least 3–5 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
- Welding certifications and knowledge of AWS, ASME, and related industry standards are highly desirable.
- Strong knowledge of welding processes, machining operations, CNC equipment, fabrication practices, and manufacturing processes.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, welding specifications, and GD&T requirements.
- Proficiency with welding equipment, machining equipment, and precision measuring instruments.
- Excellent leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience with ERP/MRP systems and production scheduling is preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety and quality.
Supervisor Responsibility:
This position has supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment:
Non-temperature controlled environment with loud noises, dust, dirt, and metal particles that are usually associated with metal fabrication shops. All employees are required to wear personal protective equipment to include noise/hearing protection, safety glasses with side shields, (paint masks, respirator, when required) and OSHA compliant safety boots/shoes within the manufacturing facility.

While performing duties of this job, the employee in this position is regularly required to stand for long periods of time. This position requires walking, the ability to reach, ascend/descend ladders, bend, kneel, and stoop. The employee occasionally will lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
