Position Overview:

The Welder – Journeyman – Structural is responsible for welding, assembling, and repairing structural steel components for industrial and commercial construction projects. This position requires advanced welding skills, knowledge of codes and procedures, and precision workmanship to ensure structural integrity and compliance with specifications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Structural Welding: Perform SMAW (stick), FCAW (flux-core), and GMAW (MIG) welding on beams, columns, and structural assemblies.

  • Fabrication: Fit and align steel components per blueprints, shop drawings, and layout instructions.

  • Inspection & Quality Control: Conduct visual inspections of welds and assist with non-destructive testing as required.

  • Safety Compliance: Maintain strict adherence to OSHA and company safety standards, including hot-work protocols.

  • Equipment Maintenance: Inspect and maintain welding tools and equipment to ensure safe, reliable operation.

  • Collaboration: Work with ironworkers, fabricators, and project leads to meet schedule and quality objectives.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of four (4) years of verifiable structural welding experience.

  • Proficiency in MIG, flux-core, and stick welding processes.

  • Ability to pass structural weld qualification tests in multiple positions (1G-4G).

  • Strong ability to read blueprints and weld symbols.

  • Excellent attention to detail and focus on safety.

Preferred Experience:

  • AWS D1.1 or similar structural welding certification.

  • OSHA 30-Hour Certification.

  • Experience working in industrial plants or large-scale construction environments.

Work Environment:

Work performed on active construction sites, fabrication yards, and industrial facilities. May involve working at heights, in confined spaces, and in outdoor weather conditions. Physical stamina and PPE compliance are essential.

Reporting Structure:

Reports to the Welding Foreman or Structural Superintendent. Works closely with Fitters, Fabricators, and QA/QC Inspectors.
