Key Responsibilities:
- Team Leadership: Assign daily tasks, manage workflow, provide technical guidance, mentor welders, and ensure team productivity.
- Quality Control: Inspect welds for adherence to specifications, blueprints, and industry codes (AWS, ASME); troubleshoot quality issues.
- Safety Management: Implement and enforce site-specific safety protocols, manage OH&S (Occupational Health & Safety), and report incidents.
- Planning & Coordination: Develop welding plans, manage resources (materials, consumables, equipment), and coordinate with engineering/management.
- Documentation: Maintain records, prepare reports on productivity, quality, and safety, and manage WPS (Welding Procedure Specifications).
Essential Skills & Qualifications:
- Extensive hands-on welding experience (SMAW, GMAW, FCAW, etc.).
- Strong understanding of welding symbols, metallurgy, and materials.
- Leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of industry codes (e.g., AWS, ASME) and standards.
- Relevant certifications (e.g., CSWIP, AS1796/AS2214) are often required.
Typical Environment:
- Construction sites, shipyards, fabrication shops, manufacturing plants.
- May involve working in diverse conditions, including over water or in temporary settings.
