Welder/Fabricator

Job Summary

USMT is seeking a detail-oriented and disciplined Welder/Fabricator (WF) to join our production team. This position is responsible for producing high-quality welded and fabricated components according to engineering drawings, specifications, and work orders. The Welder/Fabricator plays a critical role in ensuring precision, consistency, and quality across all fabricated parts and assemblies.

The successful candidate will produce high-quality parts and weldments while maintaining a consistent and efficient work pace. A strong attention to detail and an error-free approach are essential for success in this role. The position requires the ability to complete tasks with a careful and methodical approach to ensure accuracy, structural integrity, and product quality.

This role demands a high level of welding and fabrication expertise, as well as the ability to follow established procedures and processes. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working with multiple fabrication methods and contributing to a team environment focused on safety, quality, and productivity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and weld symbols.
  • Fabricate components using cutting, forming, bending, and machining tools.
  • Perform MIG and TIG welding on steel, stainless steel, and aluminum based on production requirements.
  • Set up welding machines, select appropriate settings, and maintain welding equipment.
  • Fit, assemble, and weld metal structures and components to precise tolerances.
  • Measure and verify dimensions using calipers, tape measures, squares, and other precision tools.
  • Assist with building prototypes and custom or one-off parts as required.
  • Perform finishing work including grinding, deburring, and surface preparation.
  • Operate fabrication shop equipment such as saws, mills, and drill presses.
  • Inspect completed welds and assemblies for structural integrity and quality compliance.
  • Follow company welding procedures and applicable industry standards (AWS, ISO, etc.).
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and clean work area in accordance with OSHA and company safety policies.
  • Identify and report material defects, equipment issues, or opportunities for process improvement.
  • Provide feedback to engineering and production teams to improve manufacturability and efficiency.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • 2–5 years of welding or fabrication experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and weld symbols.
  • Proficiency in MIG and TIG welding on steel, stainless steel, and aluminum.
  • Experience with fabrication processes including cutting, fitting, layout, and assembly.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining productivity and quality standards.
  • Commitment to workplace safety and adherence to established procedures.

Physical & Work Environment Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, or sit for extended periods during the workday.
  • Ability to lift and move materials up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing or production environment, including exposure to noise, heat, and welding operations.

Pay: $24.86 - $29.93 per hour
