The Role
As a Fabricator / Welder at Hamilton Caster, you will set up and operate wood and metal fabrication equipment to produce high-quality parts and assemblies. This position plays a key role in ensuring precision, structural integrity, and production efficiency across both custom and standard products.
The ideal candidate demonstrates strong welding ability, mechanical aptitude, leadership capability, and attention to detail. You take pride in producing structurally sound welds, minimizing scrap, maintaining equipment, and contributing to a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Determine the most efficient use of wood and metal stock to minimize scrap.
- Interpret shop orders, blueprints, and sketches to determine fabrication processes and sequencing.
- Fabricate metal components (stock and sheet) to required specifications.
- Set up, fabricate, and weld both standard products and custom “specials.”
- Perform welding on parts and subassemblies according to drawings and specifications by means of GMAW / FCAW.
- Produce structurally sound welds in various positions on ferrous and nonferrous metals.
- Use measuring instruments to verify work meets required tolerances and specifications.
- Operate metal cutting/burning equipment.
- Create and utilize weld fixtures, jigs, and gauges to improve manufacturing efficiency.
- Maintain equipment and perform minor repairs and lubrication as needed.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area.
- Ensure accurate part counts and notify management of material shortages.
- Assist in receiving and storing materials safely using overhead cranes and other material handling equipment.
- Perform product finishing and industrial painting processes as required.
- May operate CNC wood processing equipment, including:
- Basic programming and program modifications
- Changing tools and tooling
- Loading and unloading parts
- Removing and replacing fixture boards
- Performing basic maintenance and oversight
- Operate multiple pieces of equipment efficiently, utilizing downtime on CNC machinery to process other parts.

- Assist in training other team members when required.
- Perform additional related duties to support business needs.
Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of experience or trade school in welding.
- Skilled in welding ferrous and non-ferrous metals using MIG (GMAW) and FCAW with solid, flux, and metal-core .045–1/16" wire on structural components and sheets, producing structurally sound welds in various positions per shop orders and blueprints.
- Proficient with measuring tools: tape measure, combination square, protractor, and calipers.
- Ability to operate forklifts and 20-ton overhead cranes.
- Knowledge of AWS D1.1 welding code and visual inspection criteria.
- Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office).
- Experience with metal cutting equipment (plasma cutter, oxy/acetylene torches) and metal processing machinery (saws, shears, punch machines, folding machines, tube benders, drill press).
- Strong work ethic, team player, reliable attendance, and safety-conscious.
- Must have reliable transportation.
To verify welding ability, candidates must successfully complete a company-administered weld sample. The weld sample will be visually and/or destructively inspected by management prior to final job award.
