We are seeking an experienced Welding Engineer with strong knowledge of welding processes, materials, and international standards for shipbuilding, repair, and offshore structures. The candidate should hold valid certifications in NDT and Welder Performance Qualification (WPQ), with proven expertise in developing, implementing, and monitoring welding procedures in the marine industry.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, qualify, and approve Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQRs), and ensure compliance with class/industry standards.
- Oversee welding operations on ship construction, repairs, and offshore projects ensuring adherence to project specifications and safety requirements.
- Conduct welding inspections and ensure compliance with international codes (AWS, ASME, ISO, IACS, etc.).
- Perform and interpret Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) results to evaluate weld integrity.
- Provide technical support on welding metallurgy, consumables, and material selection.
- Train and qualify welders through WPQ tests and ensure workforce competency.
- Monitor welding consumables control, storage, and traceability.
- Coordinate with QA/QC, production, and classification societies during audits and inspections.
- Identify, analyze, and resolve welding-related issues on projects.
- Prepare technical reports, inspection records, and documentation as per marine industry standards. Qualifications & Skills:
- Bachelor’s Degree / Diploma in Mechanical / Metallurgical / Marine Engineering or equivalent.
- Certified Welding Engineer / Inspector with valid certifications (e.g., CSWIP, AWS-CWI, NDT Levels, WPQ).
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in welding engineering within the shipbuilding, ship repair, or offshore industry.
- Strong knowledge of ferrous and non-ferrous materials, welding metallurgy, and heat treatment processes.
- Proficiency in NDT methods (UT, RT, MT, PT, VT) and weld defect evaluation.
- Hands-on experience with automatic, semi-automatic, and manual welding processes (MIG, TIG, SMAW, FCAW, SAW).
- Familiar with marine classification standards (ABS, DNV, LR, IRS, BV).
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
- Excellent communication and documentation abilities.
