Welding Supervisor/Quality Assurance

Summary

The Welding Supervisor is responsible for the administration, compliance, and continuous improvement of the company’s welding programs. This role supports Hiltz Propane Systems’ NBIC R-Stamp program and B31.3 process piping work by ensuring all welding activities meet applicable codes, standards, and certification requirements. The Welding Supervisor is expected to maintain the technical capability to perform code welding when required and to actively support field and shop operations during critical welding activities, audits, or resource constraints. This position will manage documentation, conduct inspections, provide training, and perform quality assurance functions to maintain compliance with AWS, ASME, NBIC, and OSHA standards.

Essential Functions

  • With the support of the VP of Operations, develop and implement a welding program designed to achieve the company’s quality and safety goals.
  • Engage in strategy to develop streamlined processes, management, and execution of the Hiltz R-Stamp Program with NBIC.
  • Execute Quality Audit Checks on shop, field welding, and welding equipment.
  • Maintain compliance and procedure paperwork related to Hiltz operating procedures (pressure test records, MTR’s, etc).
  • Deliver high-quality welding instruction in accordance with ASME, AWS, and industry standards.
  • Develop and update curriculum to align with industry advancements, employer needs, and certification requirements.
  • Conduct skills assessments, evaluations, and certification tests.
  • When necessary, execute on operational needs in the field to help support Hiltz production goals.
  • Maintain active proficiency in applicable welding processes and demonstrate the ability to perform code welding in support of company operations when required.
  • Provide hands-on technical support during complex, critical, or non-routine welding activities to ensure compliance and quality outcomes.
  • Plan, coordinate, and manage welding-related scopes of work across projects, including sequencing, resource planning, documentation requirements, and quality hold points
  • Interface with Project Management, Engineering, Field Operations, and Inspectors to ensure welding activities are executed in alignment with project schedules, codes, and approved procedures.
  • Support project close-out by ensuring all welding documentation, inspection records, and certifications are complete and audit ready.
  • Maintain current knowledge of welding technology, equipment, codes, and industry trends.
  • Support outreach and recruitment initiatives to attract and retain employees.
  • Participate in audits, accreditation processes, and continuous process improvement initiatives.
  • Serve as the company authority for code welding activities performed under ASME, NBIC, AWS, and B31.3 requirements.
  • Review, approve, and enforce Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR), and Welder Performance Qualifications (WPQ).
  • Possess authority to stop welding work that does not meet approved procedures, safety requirements, or applicable code standards.
  • Perform and document inspections associated with code welding activities in the shop and field, including support of third-party and jurisdictional inspections.
  • Ensure good stewardship of resources, manage budget and control expenses.
  • Exemplify leadership skills in problem solving, conflict resolution, and team building.

Required Education and Experience

  • 5+ years of professional welding experience.
  • 2+ Years of lead instructor or training program management.
  • Proficiency in interpreting blueprints, welding codes, and industry standards.
  • Prior experience in bulk propane industry and construction is a plus.
  • Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) preferred.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Standard days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. However, the positions will require work during nonstandard hours when the need arises to respond to incidents or audits. Travel will be required for training purposes.

Work Environment

Work is regularly performed in a combination of office, shop and field environments and is occasionally exposed to dust, odors, oil, fumes, moving mechanical parts and vibration and noise. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to sit or walk and stand for extended periods.
  • Must be able to climb ladders, access confined spaces, and work at heights as needed.
  • Lift and carry up to 50 lbs on occasion.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $65,000.00 per year
