Welding/Fabrication Inspector

Due to continued growth and an upcoming retirement within our fabrication team, Sumac

Precision Engineering is seeking a Welding / Fabrication Inspector to join our team at our

Weymouth facility.

In this crucial role, you will help ensure that the components we manufacture meet the highest

standards of quality, adhering to customer specifications, internal procedures, and relevant

industry standards including ISO 3834.

Key Responsibilities

• Inspect welded and fabricated components (first-off, in-process, and final)

• Perform visual weld inspections in accordance with ISO 5817 and ISO 3834

• Check laser-cut blanks before welding, machining, or bending

• Inspect formed fabricated products for dimensional and visual compliance

• Verify WPS compliance (materials, consumables, parameters, fit-up, identification)

• Confirm welder qualifications and support traceability/post-weld inspections

• Assist with First Article Inspection Reports (FAIRs) and non-conformance investigations

• Support shop supervisors with equipment calibration and maintenance verifications

Essential Requirements

• Experience in welding and fabrication inspection

• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T

• Proficient in the use of handheld measuring instruments

• Strong attention to detail and clear communication skills

• Demonstrates professional integrity and a team-oriented mindset

Desirable Qualifications

• CSWIP or PCN Welding Inspector certification

• Familiarity with NDT methods (VT, PT, MT, UT) to ISO 9712

• Working knowledge of ISO 3834, ASME IX, and AS9102

• Experience with welder qualification review and interdepartmental support

• Use of CMM, Faro Arm, or Keyence measurement systems

• Inspection of high-specification precision-machined components

Minimum of 39 hours per week

Core working hours are 8 am to 4 pm Monday to Thursday and 8 am to 1 pm Friday
