POSITION SUMMARY

The Wellness Department has an opening for a qualified and innovative teacher of physical education and social emotional learning. Teach four or five sections of core courses in Wellness in the Middle and Upper School (grades 6-12), with the possibility of an elective (e.g. fresh, health, yoga or recreational sports). DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide clear instructional strategies and developmentally appropriate practices
  • Collaborate with department colleagues curriculum
  • Practice clear, timely, and professional communication with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Attend regular department, faculty, and other meetings.
  • Ensure the safety of students by providing a clean and safe environment, appropriate supervision, safety instruction, regular facility and equipment inspection.
  • Serve as a role model in maintaining appropriate standards of care for students and maintaining healthy boundaries in student and professional relationships.
  • Committed to supporting and developing a diverse and inclusive community
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • Undergraduate degree required.
  • Teaching experience at the middle school or high school level is preferred.
  • The ideal candidate will have substantial expertise in the field and will be:
    • committed to developing both students’ understanding of physical education and fitness levels
    • a student-centered educator, skilled in motivating students
    • knowledgeable about adolescents’ physical, intellectual, social, and emotional development and willing to positively greet the challenges and opportunities they present.
    • a professional oral and written communicator,
    • eager to work collaboratively with colleagues on curriculum design, pedagogy, and assessments,
    • comfortable using technology in the class setting

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM THE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Work is conducted primarily in an athletic environment / gymnasiums, fitness center and outdoor athletic venues
  • Use fitness and athletic equipment
  • Physical agility to frequently lift up to 25 pounds to shoulder height and 50 pounds to waist height; and to bend, stoop, sit on the floor, stand, walk and reach overhead.
  • Must be able to ascend and descend stairs
  • Work in and exposed to outdoor weather elements
  • Greenhills School property is a tobacco-free environment.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the US
