West Coast / Evening Movie & TV News Lead

Note: We will not review incomplete applications. To be considered: include a link to prior online reporting work and/or a cover letter - plus list five current movie/TV NEWS stories you believe we should be covering (and briefly explain why).

ComicBook is seeking a West Coast-based contributor to join our movie/TV team to cover the most, pressing, fan-minded news stories each week. This fully remote position has flexible scheduling options and opportunities for advancement.

3 Things You Should Know About the Position Before Applying:

  • Industry insights and analysis are essential to every article that we publish. We are looking for passionate movie and TV experts who can turn their experiences and expertise into informative articles that are packed with smart analysis.
  • This is going to be a very fast-moving role and you will wear multiple hats: scanning for breaking news, writing four or more news articles per shift, and moving fast.
  • For this specific role, we are seeking an active contributor who is looking to get their foot in the door at ComicBook.com and grow with us.

You Will:

  • Be self-directed. At times, you may be a 1-person show - so you'll need to know how to spin a good title and prioritize what should be worked on first, pivoting if a new story breaks.
  • Scan for news and write multiple stories during our evening shift to ensure priority stories go up quickly.
  • Meet a roughly 45-minute turnaround time on news articles from the time a story drops to when it is up on our site.
  • Compose engaging news articles with a focus on what happens and insights into why it matters.
  • Work with editors to pitch and develop unique perspectives in order to provide timely coverage of news as it happens.
  • Produce clean, engaging copy requiring minimal edits while working with editors to incorporate feedback into future pieces - on the road to self-publishing your work.
  • Bring your knowledge and expertise of specific movies and shows to the team to own lanes of coverage.
  • Follow editorial guidelines and adapt writing style to site voice (with plenty of room for personal flourishes) as needed.
  • Maintain professional standards of communication within our organization.

You Have:

  • Prior publishing experience in journalism or other professional writing fields (technical and/or creative).
  • A passion for our topic lanes and a fast-moving and opportunistic work ethic.
  • A portfolio of past work for us to review.
  • Degree and/or certification in English-related education is a benefit but not mandatory.
  • Ideas you'd love to find a home for as well as an appreciation for taking on and owning new interests as they emerge.
