About Our Family

We are a family of five in Wilmette with three wonderful children: an 8-year-old boy (3rd grader), a 4.5-year-old boy, and an 18-month-old girl. This role is primarily full-time care for the younger two, plus after-school care for our oldest, whose elementary school is walkable from our home and who can generally get home independently (occasional driving to activities).

Our 4.5-year-old attends morning Pre-K at Romano, with bus service both ways (occasional dropoff or pickup by the nanny as schedules shift). He has Down syndrome, with limited verbal skills and developmental delays, so strong English communication skills are required to support his speech development. A meaningful part of this role is taking him to speech and physical therapy appointments, participating in the sessions, and carrying those techniques into everyday routines at home. Potty training is a major priority this year. Experience with children with special needs is a strong plus. Most importantly, we want someone who is genuinely interested and excited to work with our son, engaging in his therapy, celebrating his progress, and taking real pride in his improvements. For the right person, this is a chance to play a meaningful role in his development.

Our kids have been in full-time daycare, are great with routines, and love playing at the park, reading books, and going to the library. Both parents typically work from home. We are hoping to find a warm, trustworthy, and engaging nanny who will stay with our family for years to come. Safety is our highest priority, and the role requires the ability to occasionally carry a ~40 lb child as well as our toddler.

Schedule

Monday to Friday: 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM

Total Hours: 45 hours per week, guaranteed year-round

Summers: Same hours; day camps cover part of the older kids’ days

Flexibility: Occasional flexibility to shift hours within the day or week is needed as therapy and family schedules change

Extra Hours: Evenings or weekends are rare, always requested in advance, and paid additionally

Start Date: Late August 2026 (before the school year begins)

Core Responsibilities

Childcare: Creating a safe, nurturing, and enriching environment. Planning age appropriate activities, reading, and outdoor play.

Therapy Support: Driving our son to speech and physical therapy, sitting in on sessions, and reinforcing techniques at home. A family vehicle is available for all children’s transportation; your own car may be used when convenient.

Daily Routines: Managing nap schedules, changing diapers, and potty training support (a key focus this year).

Meal Preparation: Preparing and feeding healthy meals and snacks for the children, and cleaning up the kitchen afterward.

Light Housekeeping: Keeping play areas tidy, doing the children’s laundry, and washing bottles and child-related dishes.

Ideal Candidate Qualifications

Experience: 5+ years of professional in-home or center-based childcare experience, including experience caring for multiple children at once, with references available upon request. Experience with special needs children is a strong plus.

Communication: Strong English speaking skills (required to support our son’s speech development).

Safety First: CPR and First Aid certifications (or willingness to obtain). Transportation: Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and a reliable vehicle.

Physical Requirements: Able to occasionally lift and carry a ~40 lb child and a toddler.

Health & Wellness: Non-smoker, up to date on required vaccinations (including Flu, TDAP, and COVID).

Reliability: Dependable attendance and punctuality are critical; our family will count on you every day.

Personality: Patient, warm, communicative, and passionate about child development.

Compensation & Benefits

Pay: $28.00 to $33.00 per hour depending on experience (approximately $1,260 to $1,485 per week for 45 hours)

Guaranteed Hours: You are paid your full weekly hours even when the family travels or doesn’t need care, except for unpaid time off you choose to take

Paid Time Off: 2 weeks of PTO (1 week your choice with advance notice, 1 week aligned with family vacation), plus paid major holidays

Payroll: Paid weekly in cash
