About us: Keystone Contracting is a family owned business started in 2019. We are a small company that primarily focuses on building decks, but we also do window installations and other finish carpentry projects. Most of our work is located in the greater Traverse City area, however we do travel to jobs up to 2 hours away.

Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled window installer/foreman to join our team. You would be working in a small business environment, and would be expected to be able to lead a crew of 1-3 others or work on your own as necessary. While we do various construction projects, the primary focus for this position would be door and window installation. The ideal candidate will be a capable leader, with experience leading crews and being the person responsible onsite. They will also have experience in door/window installation, interior finish carpentry (door/window casing, extension jambs, base board), and have a well rounded understanding of construction processes in general. This is a hands-on role that requires proficiency with a variety of hand and power tools, as well as the ability to lift heavy items (50 - 100 pounds) and handle physical work (building scaffold, handling large ladders, setting large windows and doors). It also requires the ability and capacity to drive to various jobsites for work. While we do our best to keep our projects as close as possible, we do projects up to 2 hours away. Drive time is paid for anything over an hour a day, and you will be in a company truck once training and onboarding is complete.

Team Member Screening - We require rigorous screening on all applicants before making a final job offer. This includes passing the following screenings:

  • Motor vehicle report (we require proof of a valid driver’s license and will review past driving records)
  • County/State/National criminal background check
  • Credit report screening
  • Substance-abuse screening

Requirements:

  • Valid drivers license and reliable transportation
  • Minimum of 5 years of residential carpentry experience, with experience installing windows and doors. More experience is preferred.
  • Have your own hand tools (Tape measure; hammer; speed square; drill, impact driver, and bits; chalk line; tool bags. Having more tools is a plus.)
  • Attention to Detail
  • Dependable
  • Adaptable/Flexible - able to adapt schedule and availability to weather and project schedules and deadlines. Many of our projects will be one day window installation jobs, and they have to be completed in one day. Sometimes that will mean staying late until the job is done.
  • Physical strength (Able to lift up to 100 pounds when necessary)
  • Ability to work at heights
  • Safety conscious
  • Agreement to comply with No Smoking policy (applies to all job sites, company vehicles, and company property)
  • Ability to work as a Team
  • Be available to work Monday - Friday. The goal is to have the normal schedule be Monday - Thursday, but this position will be based on getting projects completed, and anything not completed during the 4 day week will need to be finished on Friday.

Duties:

  • Install windows, doors, and patio doors.
  • Be able to do interior trim and casing
  • Have experience using a sheet metal brake and ability to make custom trim and flashing
  • Be able to interface well with customers, handle basic paperwork, and structure job flow and tasks to efficiently complete jobs that will take anywhere from a day to a week in duration.
  • Be willing to help out, and if necessary learn new skills, on various other construction projects as the need arises

Experience:

  • Proven experience in construction projects, with specific experience in door and window installation and the tasks that go with that. (Preferably at least 10 years of experience in residential carpentry. Skill level is more important than actual years of experience.)

Skills:

  • Strong attention to detail and craftsmanship
  • Able to look at the overall job and balance speed/quality to allow for projects to be completed adequately without running over time line
  • Proficiency in using a variety of hand and power tools
  • Excellent problem solving skills to overcome project challenges and come up with creative solutions
  • Good leadership abilities (able to effectively manage yourself and 1-3 helpers)
  • Understanding of the general best practices and how to implement them, specifically door and window installation techniques and flashing options
  • Assist with creating, revising, and following standard operating procedures

Starting out this position will pay an hourly wage. Once we get things running smoothly, we will be looking at options to pay bonuses either by the unit installed or as a profit share/percentage bonus to reward quantity of work done. If you are skilled, looking to work hard, get paid based on what you accomplish and not strictly on hours worked, and if you can manage people well, there is potential to make anywhere from 70k - 120k a year or more. This position will normally be scheduled to work 4 - 10 hour days Monday through Thursday, with Friday available if necessary.

Note: This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive. The employee may be required to perform other related duties as assigned.
